Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments I read this book somewhere in the range of 2003-2006. It was a newer book at the time I read it.

It was the third book in a fantasy trilogy. It had a range of characters, told from third person, and it followed each character at different times during the novel. It involved a battle either with dragons or against dragons. This third novel was the final battle, and it sounded like the first two novels must have been focusing on this large battle as well. It was set in a typical, other world medieval-esque setting.

It is not a DragonLance or Forgotten Realms novel.
It is not by:
Anne McCaffrey
Melanie Rawn
Mercedes Lackey
Patricia Wrede
Christopher Paolini
Naomi Novik
Shana Abe
Harry Turtledove

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments I assume it is not Chrisopher Paolini's Inheritance series, either, as I think it is more than three books now.

message 3: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments It's not anything by Paolini, no. That would be too easy. :)

Was it one of the Temeraire books? The first book is His Majesty's Dragon. This series is set in an alternate time-line where the Napoleonic War is going on.

Melissa (lostunicorn) | 9 comments Here's a list of dragons in lit, it's broken down by decades. Maybe you'll run across something that sounds familiar.

message 6: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments It's not one of the Temeraire books, but those are on my list to read!

message 7: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Melissa, it's none of the series in that list. :(

Brenda | 86 comments I know you mention that it's not by Mercedes Lackey, but this trilogy was co-written with James Mallory. In my opinion, they don't read much like a Lackey book. When Darkness Falls is the third.

message 9: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Thanks, Brenda, but it's definitely not the Obsidian Trilogy. Although they're all good books!

message 10: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Through The Darkness Is the 3rd book in "The Darkness" series by Harry Turtledove - might be what you're looking for

message 11: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Thanks, Justine, but that's not it either.

message 12: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (lostunicorn) | 9 comments I haven't read these, but thought I'd throw them out there as they are trilogies involving dragons....

The Age of Misrule series by Mark Chadbourn, book 3 is Always Forever?

The Dragonsdome Chronicles by Lucinda Hare, book 3 is Dragon Lords Rising?

Probably not gonna get that lucky, but worth a shot. lol

message 13: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Melissa, I appreciate your efforts, but it's not either of those.

message 14: by Tab (new)

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Jordan, do you remember anything about the cover?
Anything about any of the characters, weapons, other types of fantasy creatures (trolls, witches, etc)?

I don't remember anything about the cover specifically, but I think if I saw it I would know it. I can't remember what other magical sources were in the book other than dragons. Sorry!

Lou Rocama | 457 comments Some more trilogies ending around mid 2000s (third books shown)
Obsidian Chronicles: Dragon Venom (Obsidian Chronicles #3) by Lawrence Watt-Evans
Dragoncrown War Cycle: The Grand Crusade (The DragonCrown War Cycle, #3) by Michael A. Stackpole
Tale of Lanen Kaelar: Redeeming The Lost (The Tale of Lanen Kaelar, #3) by Elizabeth Kerner

Melissa (lostunicorn) | 9 comments Jordan, you said you thought you'd recognize the cover if you saw it....maybe check out this list of books with dragons on the cover:

Or maybe this list of 'fantasy books with cool covers':

Lou, The Grand Crusade looks the most promising. I'm going to investigate further. It's definitely not the Obsidian Chronicles (but I do enjoy those!), and I can rule out Tale of Lanen Kaelar because the book I read was written in third person, not first person.

Melissa, I appreciate your efforts. It doesn't appear to be any of the books on the dragon-cover list.

Jordan, still looking or did you find this?

message 21: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Still looking, thank you!

message 22: by Peter (new)

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Harry Turtledove had a fantasy series that apparently used World War II battles as inspiration. It definitely had dragons in it, and jumping around to multiple viewpoint characters is something he does a lot

The third book in the series was Through the Darkness.

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna | 505 comments The synopsis mostly match The Archons of the Stars by Alison Baird but I'm not sure if it has multiple pov.

message 24: by Adele (new)

Adele | 1445 comments The Farseer Triliogy probably won't appear on dragon lists, though dragons play an important role. The third book was first published in 1997 but new editions are published frequently: Assassin's Quest (Farseer Trilogy, #3) by Robin Hobb

Giving this a bump since Jordan posted recently.

Mirto | 1 comments Eragon ?

message 27: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Nope, not Eragon

message 28: by Will (new)

Will | 59 comments Have you tried the Riftwar saga? A Darkness At Sethanon Is the final part of the trilogy and definitly has Dragons involved.

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments Will wrote: "Have you tried the Riftwar saga? A Darkness At Sethanon Is the final part of the trilogy and definitly has Dragons involved."

Nope, that's not it--but good effort! It was definitely published in the 2000s.

message 30: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 171 comments The Demon Child Trilogy by Jennifer Fallon?

Medalon (Hythrun Chronicles Demon Child, #1) by Jennifer Fallon
Treason Keep (Hythrun Chronicles Demon Child, #2) by Jennifer Fallon
Harshini (Hythrun Chronicles Demon Child, #3) by Jennifer Fallon

Sam (baylorbear78) | 11 comments The Council Wars series by John Ringo isn't too bad a fit for your description.
There Will Be Dragons

Ari | 39 comments I doubt it but maybe Dragon Slippers?

I agree, but there were definitely not spaceships!

Jordan, it looks like you moved this to Possibly Solved. What book do you think it might be?

message 36: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (freemajo) | 40 comments I'm tired of looking. Nothing sounds right, but The Grand Crusade sounds most right.
