The book was first written in Finnish by this Finnish author (Estonian mother). I discovered the book when I was planning a trip to Estonia last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story gave me a personal perspective of a sensitive time in Estonia's history when the country was part of the Soviet Union. I highly recommend it!

Being a finn, I'm embarrased not to have read it, but I'm glad you liked it. It's high on my tbr list, but because the harsh issues it deals, I've yet to take on the challenge. There's also a very good filmatisation based on the book.
