A golden line that stood out to me is when Hornby states"He didn't want to watch any of the soaps...and he was worried that the trouble in the soaps would remind his mum of the trouble she had in her own life." on page five. I found this to be a golden line because this shows that Marcus truly cares for his mother. No matter what, Marcus is always by his mother's side to support her. I love how Hornby decides to make the child care about what his mother thinks and feels. Whereas usually the child of a divorced parent is sad or depressed or does not have a strong relationship with their parents
