You know I completely agree with you and I also chose the same quote, it's truly amazing how a such a young boy like Marcus acts to mature and like a grown up. I also love how this quote depicted his love for his mother and how much he cares about her.
i picked something similar to it , i kind of see Marcus as a father he's so caring and has a firm stance he never lets go or becomes the weak one he's has always showed the most strength and this is where i feel coming of age plays a role.
Marcus is mature and experiencing things that are unlikely for a 12 year old, but there were moments in the book where I felt like he was truly a kid. You know how sometimes he would question Will about everything and Will would be totally confused and annoyed at the speed and effectiveness of Marcus's question? I just thought it was really funny how Will hated how Marcus burrowed into his life, but Marcus had no idea about it. It made me smile and reminded me how as kids, we were oblivious to somethings.

This quote stuck out to me from Nick Hornby's about a boy because, for the first time, I was able to look into Marcus's character a little bit more deeply and discover some of his motives and intentions. It amazes me how thoughtful and deliberate Marcus is with his actions; he is observant enough to notice his mother's struggles, therefore he makes an effort to alleviate her stress by doing the smallest gesture, like watching a show does not involve life problems. So far, Marcus is taking his mother's changing relationships with ease, which shows he is understanding and capable of road bumps in his life. I feel like he is a very stable character, in the way that he knows where he stands and is intelligent enough to accept and welcome some of the changes in his life.
