So far - this book is making me think of The Road . . .

Vicki Willis I haven't read The Road yet, but this book gave me an uneasy feeling the entire time I was reading.

Yeah - I don't trust anything! The author could say "and then she saw a glass of water sitting on the table" and I would assume that the glass of water has a nefarious goal!

WOW! Right after I wrote that, there was a chapter with a nefarious glass of water! Amazing!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 2945 comments Mod
I remained uneasy throughout the entire book - and I am not sure I am very comfortable where things were left at the end!

Like the blindfolded characters - I am left with many unknowns . . .

Josen (josens) | 696 comments I was only able to read the first chapter and already I was like, what...the...heck??

It only gets better, or worse, or more confusing, or more tense, or more something! ;)

Jana (janagallagher) | 63 comments I just started this book on audio...I am afraid, very afraid, particularly after reading everyone's comments!!

As you should be - do not listen in the dark!

Josen (josens) | 696 comments haha! It's so funny you say that because I was reading this before I went to sleep last night and I was saying to myself, this is freaking me out I should stop reading. Plus my foot had been hanging off the bed so I pulled it in real quickly lol! Needless to say the book was getting to me.

Definitely one of the creepier books I have read in awhile

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Geez this book is seriously freaking me out lol!

Josen (josens) | 696 comments I wish I was able to have one sitting to read this. Every time I have to do something I don't want to put it down.

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Well I really liked this story. Great pick Matthew! :)

Thanks! I am glad that so many people are enjoying it!

So, what about the Bird Box itself? It leant its name to the book, yet it seemed like such a small element of the story.

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments The story was intriguing. I found it to be a like the Mist with a dash of Children of Men and a touch of I Am Legend and The Happening.

I agree Matthew. Why name it The Bird Box and then it not be a major element of the story? To me, the way it wrapped left me with more questions than answers (but possibly in a good way. I'm still trying to digest it all): Why did Gary not turn violent? What are the creatures? Where did they come from? Why are they here? Why do the people at the school no longer have to blind themselves?

I couldn't stop reading it though. Great choice Matthew!

I still wonder if the Gary at the birth was real - or just stress induced hallucination

I actually wondered that myself. Or maybe he was a manifestation of manipulation of the Creatures. We don't know exactly what they are capable of, so I would not be surprised if this wasn't a projection of the creatures. Like they some how created him or entered his mind and are controlling him to flush out the final remaining humans.

Maybe a sequel??

I kind of wondered too if it had ended with a creature showing itself, would I have been satisfied with what it's description would be? Because you know, if it would've been a let down and I not liked it that would've changed my whole view of the book. Is it better to have ended it this way with the reader still questioning?

I think it is - I wanted to know but I think it was more satisfying to be left guessing.

Josen wrote: "Maybe a sequel?? "

I feel like probably not - but anything could happen, and if there is one, I will read it!

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments I really hope not. I think it left on just the right note.

Glad you wrote this Josen. I purposely started it earlier on a vacation day, just in case I needed to read through it in one sitting. Good advice!
