This is the debut novel of Renee Ahdieh and I loved it. Unfortunately it is going to be trilogy so what that means I have to wait till May of 2016 for the second book.
Imagine leaving in a land where the 18 year old king, Khalid, is seen as a monster. He weds a new bride every night just to have them killed every morning. Our main character, Shahrzad, a 16 year old girl who volunteers to be his next bride, has more of vengeance on her mind than anything else. Her best friend was one of the many brides that were killed by this king. She has a plan of how to stay alive long enough to kill him. But her plans change as she slowly starts to get to know him and realizes that there is a secret that needs to be discovered, a secret that would explain all these stolen lives.
I do not want to give up too much of the story but it's simply wonderful. From the beginning you are swept into this world where the imagery is beautiful and the words are magical. You get to know these two characters pretty well and as this crazy love emerges, as readers we need to discover the purpose of these deaths and what it means for both this young king and his young bride, Shahrzad. Can not wait for book 2..I definitely recommend it.
