1. To know how it ends.
2. Some people have to finish series, no matter how terrible they've become over the years.
3. Some people actually find some good in this series and hope it might get better.

Personally, I'm not picking up anymore of these books until after the last one is released and we're told yes, this is the end.
Also, it might have something to do with the level of maturity of the reader and their expectations of a story.

I couldn't agree more!

And even though the summary says 'epic battle', there is nothing epic about what happens in this book. You may as well skip to the end and then toss it in a charity donation bin because the ending just ... Ugh, it's like Under The Dome (the book, not the show). You go through all the drama only to find out it was a bunch of aliens.

Precisely.
Precisely.

I am a beginning and end type of person so the first
book came out in 2007 and the final 12th book 2014 release,
or for me personally I only managed to get hold of a copy
recently. So re-read the whole lot.
I know glutton for punishment, oh its all so terribly of
its time and not in the best way, its well past its sell
by date and its not something that is very memorable or
will stand the test of time.
I think of other long running serials I have read
and compare and frankly there is no comparison.
Yes Margot`s description is very apt
.
