Between me moving, going on vacation, working, and getting my house set up, setting up voting to select a new book fell to the wayside. Sorry. Since we're already into December, how about we do this:
Everybody read a book that has to do with something wintery or holiday-related (however tenuous the link is) and then tell us about it. Tell us what it's about, what you liked about it, if you'd recommend it, etc. The sooner the better (if it's good, maybe everyone else would like to read it before the end of the year).

Okay, the book that I read for the free-for-all is The Dark Servant . I like the Krampus mythology (for more information about Krampus see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus and www.krampus.com) and last year I read Krampus: The Yule Lord. I think it's a fun twist on the traditional Santa Clause stuff. Unfortunately enough, I didn't get to see the Krampus movie that came out this year (I'll Redbox it, though!).
The idea of the book is this: there are mysterious kidnappings in a small town. The main character Billy figures out that it's Krampus and sets out with a few of his friends to recover the kidnapped kids (his brother is among the kidnapped). Mahem ensues.
The book was pretty good! I'd probably give it 3.5-4 /5. It was a fun, quick read. There are a few naughty words (they were being chased and/or tortured by an 8 foot tall Christmas Devil, after all), but it wasn't over the top. I'd recommend it if you're looking to shake up your traditional Christmas reads.

Troy Munro | 43 comments The book I read for the free-for-all was Dealing with Dragons, which Mikey told me about. Honestly, it was a simple book (I think it's a YA novel) but was fun. Basically, it's about a princess that isn't proper (she sneaks away to learn magic or fencing rather than learning how to sit right) and decides find a dragon to be captured by. The whole idea is great (compared to the normal princess narrative) and the deadpan way that the lines are delivered made me smile all the time. So a good quick little read.

I read the book, The Golem and the Jinni. It was great for the folklore and for the setting, late 1800's New York. It was basically a book about the american dream as it applies to folklore. Fantastic read, takes a bit to get going but once it does it's engaging.
