Roger Hardy (goodreadscomroger_hardy) | 9 comments I'd like to get a discussion going on Flight Into Darkness which has 10 reviews on goodreads and is on lots of 'to read' lists. It's a bit techie, but not too much so and proposes a novel way forward for middle-eastern politics, couched in a massive terrorist act that is intended to forge an unlikely alliance. It also has a really good bad guy! Any comments?

It's at https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2.... Ok, it's mine. me, me, me. Yes, I know...

Hello Roger,

How far is Flight into Darkness based on your experience as a pilot?

Roger Hardy (goodreadscomroger_hardy) | 9 comments Partly but indirectly; it was more my experience as an aviation safety regulator. When I learnt to fly, cockpits were 'clockwork'; ie, lots of instruments. Now they are just computer screens with all the software behind them. There was one US type that I was certificating for the EU and it had an all-electric cockpit with no other instruments or back-up. Lose the electrics and you lose everything; if it happens at night, you die. Add to that a possible software Trojan Horse and you have FID. Incidentally, we insisted on standby instruments for the EU. Anyway that was the inspiration. I got to fly the aircraft at Albuquerque and it was a little gem!
