brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) Hey everyone. I love reading and writing Devotionals, I'm going to share one that I wrote with you:

Jesus: our True Light

Some of my favorite Bible passages are where Jesus describes himself as being the light or instructs us to give light to people. As a Believer, Jesus instructs us to be the light of the world, just as he was and is the light of this world. Jesus promises that those who believe in him will not walk in darkness, as is truthfully described in this verse: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life-John 8:12.

In Pioneer times, people had no electricity yet. One of their favorite pastimes was to write letters to their loved ones and friends. Children and teens, especially girls, would write in their keepsake journals. They would write about their favorite experiences that they've had, like going on a picnic or celebrating a birthday. Since electricity hadn't been invented yet, they made homemade candles from beeswax to use as their light. Since pioneers used candles to illuminate their homes, they needed a large quantity of them every year. Pioneers needed to store them in a cool, dark room, such as the cellar. Handmade pioneer candles needed to be stocked in these places so that the candles would not disintegrate.

In the same way, believers are instructed to illuminate their faith to others. We can do this by telling others about the plan of salvation from Jesus, or just by our words we speak or the actions that we take. The closets represent going into the world and planting the seed to people using God's love and grace.

Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ isn't optional for the believer, in fact Jesus mentions that we do this in chapter 28 of Matthew and verse 19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. In this verse, Jesus is instructing his disciples to tell the good news of Salvation and the Kingdom of Heaven.

We can also get the most out of our illuminating Christian walk by reading the Bible. God's word is a lamp and a light for us, as described in this verse: Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path-Psalm 119: 105.

In Revelation, there will be no need for a sun or moon in Heaven, because God's light will be enough to shine through it. Revelation 21:23 says: And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the Light thereof.

The light from Jesus is refreshing, inspirational, and encouraging. It can give you a good quality of life and direct you in your goals, hopes, and God given talents. Use this opportunity to reflect in God's light and to tell others about it.

oooh good quote from david platt

“We owe Christ to the world--to the least person and to the greatest person, to the richest person and to the poorest person, to the best person and to the worst person. We are in debt to the nations.”

It was. I decided to change it because I love the song Hold My Heart by Tenth Avenue North :) I'm still a Narnia fan though.

Madi | 220 comments Awesome! It coincides with another David Platt book I'm reading these days. (Radical). What you wrote is so true, about how God isn't suggesting for us to be a light in a dark world, He commands us to. "What does it matter if you gain the whole world, but lose your soul?"

So true! So many Christians (I struggle with this a lot too) try to fit in and live alongside everyone else. But what this world needs is to see the lights God put in us shining brightly in the darkness. We were talking about this in youth group last week, about how so many of our lights can get snuffed out by different things.

Amen, ladies. Let's keep our lamps burning. We mustn't forget keep the wicks trimmed, and have a ready supply of oil. ;)

Thinking of Matthew 25. Let us be like the wise virgins/bridesmaids/however your Bible puts it. :)
