So I'm looking for some new books read, but I'm not sure which ones...
I really like fantasy and especially those with strong female characters. I've already read Red Queen, ASOIAF, Throne of Glass and Robin Hobb. I absolutely loved Red Queen so something like that would be great.
I'm looking for a book about someone who discovers he/she has powers and then struggles to control them (if that makes sense). Thanks in advance :)

I haven't read Red Queen so I can't say if it's in any way similar but try The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan. It is exactly about a strong female character discovering that she has powers and she struggles to control them. It's a little slow in the pacing but the story and the world is very interesting. It's also a trilogy and it gets better for every book. If you haven't read it, it's definitely worth a try!! Personally, I love them and reread the last one occasionally.

The sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind is a good series to read (the earlier books are better)I agree with Katrine the magicians guild by trudi canavan is a good.
Magician by Raymond E Feist is another one of my favourites.

This is a librarian's favorite question! If you love strong female protagonists in fantasy, I'd recommend Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, Uprooted by Naomi Novik, and the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. Daughter of Smoke & Bone is good too, and if you're interested in steampunk as well Gail Carriger writes humorous, witty, fast-paced books with strong, pragmatic, intelligent female protagonists. They're my favorite not-so-guilty pleasure. :)

I would actually stay away from Terry Goodkind...he has a bad reputation for his treatment of female characters. I haven't read The Magician's Guild, but I'm adding it to my to-read list now too!

the mistborn trilogy by brandon sanderson also has a female protagonist who discovers that she has powers. not only that, the story is paced very well and full of action.

Don't know if you've ever read any Walter Moers, but he is fantastic!

And I second Sanderson's Mistborn series and Uprooted by Naomi Novik.

Michael J Sullivan's Riyria Revelations is phenomenal. The leads aren't female, but there are some super strong female characters.

Thanks everyone, they all look very interesting! If you're looking for a thrilling fantasy serie I would recommand the Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski.

I'll throw this in, Lev Grossman's The Magicians trilogy. It's a great series. The female characters strength and intelligence is rewarding to read and watch unfold.

I second Mistborn! Great series. And a new book from that series was just released this year. :)

I'm almost finished with the first Mercy Thompson book, Moon Called, by Patricia Briggs and it has a strong female protagonist. She seem to mainly deal with everyone else's nonsense more than her own powers but I have really enjoyed it so far.

Everything by Brandon Sanderson.

Also, read 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' and the following 2 books.
The Codex Alera quintology are fantastic also.

I love the Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. And another suggestion (although not a leading female) from me would be the broken empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence.

Broken Empire is one of the best series ever. Totally underrated.
