~ All Together Now: A January Group Challenge ~
We are still taking a go at this challenge. Join us for the fun.

We’re going to see if we can all pitch in and spell something.

For January let’s try: Enjoy a Happier New Year with Lisa Kleypas.

RULES: Only ONE book per person may be submitted. You may reserve your letter now, on a first come, first serve. However, you may change your mind later in the month, just let us know as soon as possible.

Read a book with a title, series name, author’s (first or last name), character (first or last name), that begin with the letter that correspond to letters of the words we have chosen. You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the, etc.).

Example of Spell-It-Out in Post #2 below. If you need to know, here is info on how to Add a Book or Bookcover Link.

message 30: by Molly (new)

Molly (molly32) | 40 comments I'm done with the challenge - The Rogue Not Taken (Scandal & Scoundrel, #1) by Sarah MacLean was not my cup of tea (and that was bitterly disappointing, since I have been looking forward to this for quite some time). I'm not going to stop buying Sarah MacLean books because of this one disappointment, but this will teach me to read the reviews before I leap into it with high expectations.
Dukes Prefer Blondes (The Dressmakers, #4) by Loretta Chase was better that I expected (although the POW was choppy and slightly confusing at times, it was a satisfying and lovely romance.

I was at a book club the other night & a couple of people were not thrilled with Sarah's book. I heard her read from it at Lady Jane's Salon last month & it didn't sound like something I would like. She described it as historical romance Kardashians.

message 34: by Molly (new)

Molly (molly32) | 40 comments It wasn't the Kardashian/ tabloids aspect for me - the style was heavy and wordy (too descriptive, without the necessary information), the plot had too much unbelievable and inconsistent moments (I know you have to suspend all disbelieve when you enter this genre, but still, this was a bit too much) and the characters had all the clichés. On top of that the drama was in full force - no light moments anywhere. It felt like the book would have benefited from an experienced editor, who would have shortened it with 20% and perhaps made some constructive suggestions on plot and character traps.

Finished this book yesterday and was somewhat disappointed but not sure why. I only gave it 3* and Putney has been a must-read for me for years. Maybe I should do some rereading of her earlier ones.
That said, I'll probably buy her next one!
