Prom discussion

I think the authors message is that people need to try things before they criticize them. Ashley never liked prom. And now that she joined the prom committee she is falling in love with it. She loves the dresses, the shoes, everything. But before she joined the club she hated prom, she only hated it because she didn't know what it was. Do you think that was the authors message, or do you think it's something else? Any thoughts?
