no, I will not watch a foreign language film the first time dubbed. you loose allot in translation and the original voice actors are more accurate in their emotional dialog.

Yes, i hate subtitles. I sat though Pans Labyrinth, but it felt like forever. No once was more than enough.

I have hearing problems (amazing seeing as I am a musician) but I struggle with accents terribly so subtitles are a must for me, my gran always had them on as she was completely deaf so for me they aren't off putting at all. I prefer them to having somone in the corner signing.

Subtitles are no problem - some of the best films have them like City of God, Amelie, Pan's Labyrinth ... what are more?

How happy does Amelie make you feel? I have never seen a more perfect life-is-great film.

I prefer subtitles, because the actor's voice - tone, inflection, cadence - may not be something that a voice actor can replicate. You're not really getting the same performance. I remember seeing "Life is Beautiful" both subtitled and dubbed, and Benigni's performance was really hurt by the dub.
Having said that, subtitles should be clear and easy to read, dark on a light background if possible. Sometimes they are rendered so poorly that they're unreadable.

I much prefer subtitles to dubbed. In fact, I will not watch dubbed films, unless I have a really good reason to watch the film.
In opera too, I prefer the original Italian/German to English translation but with surtitles. Actually, even when the opera is in English, it is useful to have the surtitles, since the diction is not always the best. In languages such as French or German which I am familiar with, I like the fact that I can half-follow what is being said in the original. But in any case, you can pick up a lot from the intonation of the actors.

Subtitles are just fine with me. I agree with Jo's message number 3. I saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with subtitles and I'm certain I won't see the American remake. I also plan to see The Girl Who Played with Fire which should be released here (with subtitles) on July 2.

Sorry, have to disagree - the Spanish REC was better but Quarantine was a very good remake. Looking forward to the Spanish sequel to REC - its got good reviews. I'm a convert to subtitles since I gotmy new glasses!!!
