Michael Burton | 111 comments Welcome! Thank you for joining. Please feel free to give the group a little blurb about yourself.

message 2: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Michaels | 5 comments Hi I'm Chris, I'm a wannabe author currently working on the final draft of my debut novel. I'm also new to online discussions and am eager to see what it is all about.

message 3: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 111 comments Hey Chris, welcome! Once the group is up and running I'm sure you will find a lot of useful information. All the best for your debut novel.

message 4: by Scott (new)

Scott Bell | 38 comments Hello, Michael, and thanks for the introduction. I have one published novel (Yeager's Law) with a sequel (Yeager's Mission) scheduled for publication in 2016. Both with Red Adept Publishing.

In addition, I have a series being edited and published through Divertir that should come out this year as well, in the mystery/crime genre.

And finally, I have a sci-fi novel being published through Driven Press that will ALSO hit in 2016.

This year will be a busy one for me on the publication front.

message 5: by David (new)

David Freas (quillracer) | 19 comments Hi, I'm Quillracer.
I write mainly mysteries but do veer into thriller territory once in a while.

message 6: by Terry (new)

Terry Keys (terrykeys) | 1 comments Hello... I'm Terry... one book (Chained Guilt) rel last year... the sequel will be out in 3 months! Hopefully we can have some great conversations here!

message 7: by E.A. (new)

E.A. Briginshaw | 2 comments Hello. I'm Ernie and I've written three books so far (mysteries) and have one in the works that I think will be classified more as general fiction. However, I currently have one in the planning stages that I think (hope) will be much more in the thriller category.

message 8: by Quentin (new)

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 1 comments Hey everyone. I write what I suppose would be called "Supernatural Thrillers" although I like to work in many different genres and sometimes mash them all up.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm Shine. I started writing FANFICTIONS in 2011 before I started writing my own original stories around in 2013. I also wrote my own song lyrics in 2013.

I'm still writing my own stories, but it took me awhile to get it all right. Because I've failed some of the writing rules.

The writing rules I've failed, before I improved myself, were:
1. "SAID" is dead!
2. SHOW! Not Tell!
3. Add more details instead of talkings.

message 10: by Kat (new)

Kat | 9 comments Hello, my name is Kat and I am currently working on my first novel and have been for over a year now. I am in the last stages of revision and I plan to find an editor soon. I am very excited about my work and I am literally bursting with anticipation to get it published. Hope to get some great insight and advice from fellow authors here.

message 11: by Emily (new)

Emily Ross (eross816) Hi, I'm Emily author the YA thriller Half in Love with Death. I'm really excited to learn more about thrillers by reading a ton of them and am planning to write another one! Eager to get advice from fellow authors about your favorite thrillers and tips about the craft.

message 12: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Rubin (carrierubin) Hello, thank you for the invitation. Nice idea for a group. I've had two medical thrillers published and am working on the third. Thrillers remain my favorite genre to read too.

message 13: by Paula (new)

Paula Cappa I write supernatural thrillers/mysteries. I just joined International Thriller Writers but I'm not all that active yet. Lots of great authors in this organization.

I have three books published and lots of short stories. I'm a hyprid: self-pubbed for ebooks but Indie-pubbed for print with Crispin Books. I'm also a freelance copy editor by trade.

Emily Ross (eross816) ITW is a fantastic organization. Very supportive

message 15: by Paula (new)

Paula Cappa Are you a member, Emily? I'm so new. I'm thinking I might like to go to their convention in July. Have you ever been?

message 16: by Emily (new)

Emily Ross (eross816) Paula wrote: "Are you a member, Emily? I'm so new. I'm thinking I might like to go to their convention in July. Have you ever been?"

I am a member. They are hugely helpful to debut authors, and so nice. And yes I am planning on going to their convention in July.

message 17: by Paula (new)

Paula Cappa I'm not debut author. I have 3 novels out and some short stories published. I do want to get more involved with them but since my books are supernatural thrillers, I feel like I might be off the mark.

message 18: by Emily (new)

Emily Ross (eross816) I wouldn't worry about that. My novel isn't a conventional thriller either. They are very welcoming and definitely worth joining for all authors I think not just debuts.

message 19: by Mike (new)

Mike Meyer | 1 comments I am Mike, and I have written two international suspense thrillers, one situated in both Munich and Saudi Arabia, where I was a professor at the University of Petroleum and Minerals, and the other set on the Caribbean island of St. Croix, where I was a professor at the University of the Virgin Islands.

message 20: by Paula (new)

Paula Cappa Thanks, Emily.

message 21: by E.J. (new)

E.J. Findorff I'm E.J. I write suspense/thrillers usually involving detectives and/or FBI in some way and they all take place in New Orleans. I've been traditionally published once and self published two. I'm currently searching for an agent or publisher.

message 22: by Terri Lynn (new)

Terri Lynn (terrilynnmerritts) | 2 comments Hi, everyone and thank you Michael for inviting me to the group. I definitely want to write thrillers and I devour them as a reader. I love reading thrillers, suspense, and mysteries but NOT cozy mysteries. I don't like fluffy books like the cozies.

Anyway, I am Terri and I am a mystery/suspense/thriller addict and would love to make a contribution to the genres. I am glad to be a part of the group and hope to get to know and encourage my fellow writers.

message 23: by Skye (new)

Skye | 148 comments Hi Everyone, and thank you Michael for the invitation. My writing is based on real life experiences. I guess I could say I am a magnet for unusual occurrences and people. I have recorded some and continue to write, but I need to fictionalize many of my pieces.
Personally, I love suspense, police/procedural/legal thrillers/ psychological suspense/and cozy mysteries.

message 24: by Jim (new)

Jim Crocker | 28 comments Hi there everyone and thanks for the invite, Michael. I've been working on this for a few years. Studying and writing and getting closer and closer to self-publishing. I am working with a group of local would-be writers meeting once a week. Next we will be holding study workshops. I am particularly fond of writing books by James Scott Bell and Larry Brooks. I look forward to scintillating discussions with y'all about Oxford commas, using "like" in every sentence and using "goes" in place of "says." It's a wunnerful time for writing, eh?

Cheers!
Jim in MT

Hi Terri Lynn: many events are from the long past, but sometimes life is stranger than fiction, huh?

message 32: by Bill (new)

Bill Ward (billwardauthor) | 11 comments Hi All, I have published 5 topical thrillers over the last two years including a trilogy last year featuring Powell, which I am pleased to say has been very successful. I intend to publish 2 further books featuring Powell this year. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Patrick | 4 comments Hello and thanks for the invitation! I have the first book in a mystery series with an agent who is shopping it around to traditional publishers. I also am wrapping up a standalone mystery that I plan on self-publishing this autumn. Another mystery series, set in NYC during WWII is in the works.

In my non writing time, I work for Pearson helping to develop and deploy software used by authors and editors. I also teach business report writing as an adjunct at IUPUI.

The rest is devoted to reading and Xbox One time.

message 35: by Maria (new)

Maria Riegger | 1 comments Hello! Thanks for the invitation, Michael! I'm Maria. I practice corporate/banking law for my day job, and write fiction on the side. I write women's fiction/chick lit, not thriller. But I may be interested in writing thrillers at some point. I love to read them!

A few months ago I published Miscalculated Risks (Law School Heretic Series, #1) by Maria Riegger and this March/April will publish the second novel in that series, Acceptable Misconduct (Law School Heretic Series, #2) by Maria Riegger

I live right outside of Washington, DC.

Rebecca Vance (goodreadscomrebeccavance) | 6 comments Hi Michael and everyone! Thanks for the invite. I am a writer and hopefully soon, author. I am working on my debut novel which is a mystery. I love reading mysteries and thrillers. I write a review blog for debut authors up to 3 published novels. I am closed to submissions now, however. I can use all the tips everyone provides and maybe even come up with a couple of my own! :)

message 44: by D.B. (new)

D.B. Woodling | 2 comments Hi, everyone. Skye invited me to join the group and, after taking a look, I think I'll fit right in. I am the traditionally published author of Final Claim, Write Off (soon to be released by SynergEbooks),Shannon's Land, and Slices. Because I have a penchant for mystery/suspense/thrillers, I'm looking forward to the interaction.

message 47: by Steven (new)

Steven Moore Hello all,
...and a special thanks to Michael for asking me to join this group. Most of my novels can be classified as either thrillers or mysteries or combinations, and sometimes they'e set in the future, so they're also sci-fi.
Beyond my fiction, I've tried to give back to readers and writers by reviewing books, interviewing authors, and posting articles about the writing business. In particular, I've offered a free course on writing fiction that complements King's On Writing and the article "The Eightfold Way" about what NOT to do was reposted to several online websites (fair warning--my opinions are often several sigmas away from the norm).
My website URL is http://stevenmmoore.com.
I'm happy to discuss writing topics with anyone, and I'll try to look at all the good posts I'm sure will occur in this group.
r/Steve

I look forward to your insight on writing fiction. Thanks for joining the group.

message 49: by Pam (last edited Mar 12, 2016 02:01PM) (new)

Pam (avidaboutit) | 1 comments I am very excited to be surrounded by other writers and soon to be writers as myself,. I look forward to getting to know you all better and stoking the fires of creativity !

message 50: by Steven (new)

Steven Moore Pam,
The only thing more exciting than writing is reading...well, ignoring a few other things to keep this PG.
My fires were smoldering for a long time as I provided for my family and helped a few relatives. About 10+ years ago, I couldn't wait any longer. So far the fires haven't consumed me. :-)
When I started out, I did exactly what you did--I call it lurking in authors' discussion groups. It's amazing what one can learn!
Michael has started a nice cozy group where lots of ideas can be exchanged. Welcome.
r/Steve
