Here If You Need Me is based on a true story written by Kate Braestrup. Kate loses her husband, Drew, to a fatal car accident, leaving behind his four children and Kate. Drew was a state trooper and planned to become a minister after he retired. Throughout the grief and sorrow of his death Kate decided to follow in his footsteps to be ordained and to serve as a law-enforcement chaplain. She became chaplain for search-and-rescue missions with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. She did this for Drew and knew he was right beside her throughout her ups and downs. Throughout her book she acknowledges many rescue missions she has been a part of and describes each of them in detail of every small encounter she faces with the rest of her team. Kate encountered many touching experiences through Christ growing up, but didn’t fully understand the meaning of why it was happening to her. She didn’t grow up being educated about Christ and the church. She might not have been the most spiritual person, but it didn’t mean she couldn’t be religious and to her that was the entire God she needed. Kate is trying to find solid ground for what’s best for her family and herself, by reaching out for God to lead her through. She tries to express her feelings, even at the darkest time in a positive way. She explains in deep thoughts and words how to find meaning when you’re lost and kind find your way out, and shows there is a light at the end. I gave this book 5 stars, because I think this book is an inspiring book for anyone to read and can turn peoples’ lives around for the best. Her book reaches out to those struggling to find answers in life when lost and help find each individual person’s way. This book has a sense of comfort and overwhelming touch that words can’t describe until you read it. It’s not like any other book I have ever read and kept my attention. I would recommend this book to any parent who has a troubled teen. I would also recommend this book to troubled teens looking for an answer when life isn’t going in a positive direction. This book is really for anyone searching for answers through Christ, or even a way to turn sorrow into happiness. Those who are Christians would have a better understanding of this book than those who might have a different religion. Although, I don’t think that should stop those who aren’t Christians from reading her book.
