Well it took a while but I finally found an author born the same year as me (1989) so I will sign up for both :)
I'm actually fortunate in that I have already found a nice selection of books for this challenge. My problem is that I can't decide which ones to read! There are about five that I'm considering for the book published the year I was born (1952), and my really difficult choice will be for a book by an author born that year. I have Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club and Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and I don't know which way to go on that.
Any votes on which one I should choose?
I am actually reading The Joy Luck Club for a book published the year I was born, I'm really looking forward to reading it. I have read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxyand found it ok. It had some funny moments but I didn't like it as much as everyone else seems too.
I think it mostly depends on what you are in the mood for: ridiculous humour (Hitchhikers) or drama with some humour thrown in (joy luck club).

"I agree with Kelsi. I enjoyed The Joy Luck Club but I never have understood what people see in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I didn't like it at all.
Thanks, Kelsi and Lynn! I was kind of leaning in that direction myself, but I've heard so many people say that they love Hitchhiker that I wasn't sure. I'll probably get around to that one at some point, but for now I'll probably go with The Joy Luck Club.
My books for this challenge are:
1. Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut
2. The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
I'm really sorry, but I'm going to have to bow out of this challenge. Just too many books/things on my to-do list this month. :(
Can you sign me up for 2?Finally an excuse to read Beter again. It is written by a Dutch Olympic marathon swimmer, Maarten van der Weijden (born March 31, same birthday as mine). A beautiful book about his struggle with cancer and his road to the Olympics. I loved it. He's my hero!
Now I have to find a book that is published in my birthyear (1989).
I'd like to try this one .
Could you just sign me up for one ?
Thanks :)

THE VERY MINI BIRTHDAY CHALLENGE
Duration: May 1 - 31, 2014
1. Read a book that was published year you were born.
The Comfort of Strangers
After liking Atonement so much I pick this, but no, I still don't seem to like his other books. So creepy but short.
2. Read a book from an author who shares a birthday or birth year with you.
Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock
Weirdest story for awile. Little bit fairytale kind but I'm still don't gonna check other parts.
2/2 *DONE*
Reija wrote: "I have little trouble find those authors born with same date, do you check wikipedia or something else?Hi, yeah, I had some trouble too, because I don't know any authors born in 1996... I would suggest trying wikipedia page with date of your birthday and then look for "author" or "writer" in the "Births" section. Or I also tried googling "November 16 birthday author/writer". Hope that helps and good luck :)
Hi ladies
I found a really neat website yesterday that has tons of authors birthdays . Just click on the day, month, or year on the left corner and you'll get lots of ideas !

Yes, I will join you all!I was born 2nd june 1973.
In 1973 The Princess Bride was published - a book I've been wanting to read a long time!
Thomas Hardy had his birthday also on the 2nd of june. I'm planning to read 2 books by him this month (for 2 different groupreads): Jude the Obscure and Far from the Madding Crowd.
So you can sign me up for 3! ;)
I like all kind of reports, so I created a sheet to Google Drive where I also update the status as this challenge goes. I made it public so you can see it too in here. It's updating automatically, so every time I make changes you'll see it too after hitting refresh-button.

Yeah, this is my first. But I've been watching how other leaders do their job and learned from that :)

2. Read a book from an author who shares a birthday or birth year with you.

If you're having trouble finding an author born in your birth year, my idea was to look for famous people and see if any of them wrote an autobiography I was interested in. Just another idea.
