I nominate Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton who was born in South Africa.

I would like to nominate The Dark Child by Camara Laye. Laye, who is from Guinea, is considered the most important African writer in French, and the book is also listed in the 1001 books to read before you die. It is an autobiographical novel based on the author's childhood in French Guinea. Sounds very interesting to me.

I'm going to nominate Wolf, Wolf by Eben Venter who is a South African author. I really want to read this one because it looks like an interesting coming of age story with some autobiographical elements

I'll nominate Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela. It has been on my to read list for some time and is well regarded.
