Your moderators are trying something new this time around, so for January/February, we are asking you to nominate a book you'd like to read that comes from the UK or Ireland. Authors we've read in past are allowed, as long as you do not pick a book that we've already read.

Important:
1) Authors may NOT nominate their own books. Publicists' nominations will also not be allowed.

2) If your book wins, you will be the moderator for the discussion, so please don't nominate a book unless you're willing to do this.

3) If the list gets totally out of hand, we will close the thread for new nominations and move right into the seconding phase.

4) One nomination per person, please. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll.

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

That's it! Have fun.

Benjamin | 5 comments The Strangler Vine (Avery & Blake, #1) by M.J. Carter by M.J. Carter. Agent and a soldier of The Company are sent in search of beloved author Xavier Mountstuart through the dangerous jungles and even more dangerous political climate of India at the end of the 1840s. -- It's book 1 of a new series (book 2 is just out and 3 on the way).

With apologies, we do have a long-standing policy about authors not nominating their own books.

M. Dobson (meg_evonne) | 109 comments In keeping with the spirit of the UK theme, I recommend the Queen's favorite author, Dick Francis (and his secret co-author spouse Mary Francis) and their first Sid Halley book, Odds Against. You don't need to enjoy horses or horse racing to enjoy a Dick Francis mystery. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

(I'd prefer his stand alone Flying Finish but it doesn't seem readily available anymore. Yes, I'm pouting.)

It doesn't really fit the mystery theme, Tarah and for this month's challenge, Nancy has you to nominate authors/ books from Ireland and the UK. Feel free to try again.

Virginia I don't think anyone's nominated With Our Blessing by Jo Spain - a debut catching everyone's attention in Ireland.

Annie (annie-somanybookssolittletime) I didn't know "The Last Detective" but read the summary after Suzy's nomination and it looks great! Thank you for suggesting it Suzy.

I've read a couple of Simon Brett's mysteries, but haven't tried one of the Charles Paris books yet.
