The Winners have been chosen for the January/February 2016 group read: This month's theme: Mystery, Crime and Thrillers from the UK and Ireland
I would like to nominate Crocodile Tears by Mark O'SULLIVAN. Its a cracking read that I am certain everyone will appreciate with its gothic flavour.

Crocodile Tears, by Mark O'Sullivan
Crocodile Tears, by Mark O'Sullivan
by M.J. Carter. Agent and a soldier of The Company are sent in search of beloved author Xavier Mountstuart through the dangerous jungles and even more dangerous political climate of India at the end of the 1840s. -- It's book 1 of a new series (book 2 is just out and 3 on the way).

With apologies, we do have a long-standing policy about authors not nominating their own books.

Malia, sorry, but we've read that one.
Bonnie, pick another book!

In keeping with the spirit of the UK theme, I recommend the Queen's favorite author, Dick Francis (and his secret co-author spouse Mary Francis) and their first Sid Halley book, Odds Against. You don't need to enjoy horses or horse racing to enjoy a Dick Francis mystery. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...(I'd prefer his stand alone Flying Finish but it doesn't seem readily available anymore. Yes, I'm pouting.)
I'd like to nominate A Dark-Adapted Eye by Barbara Vine. If it is ineligible then I'd like The Ice House by Minette Walters.

It's eligible and, may I say, a good book.

Face Value I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it would be a great addition and talking point for a crime book club.
Long Way HomeNancy wrote: "She's American, I think."True. Sorry. Let's try again, can I nominate Long Way Home
I nominate The Guards by Ken Bruen. Set in Galway, Ireland, Jack Taylor is an alcoholic ex-policeman who wants to be the best PI in Ireland. Dark, dark, dark.
I nominate The Last Detective. I've wanted to get started on this series - this is book 1. (assuming the group has not read it already) I like how you all are mixing it up lately with themes!

Jan C wrote: "Suzy wrote: "I nominate The Last Detective. I've wanted to get started on this series - this is book 1. (assuming the group has not read it already) I like how you all are mixing it u..."I would be a starter for that or The crossing place by Elly Griffiths
I don't think anyone's nominated With Our Blessing by Jo Spain - a debut catching everyone's attention in Ireland.
I didn't know "The Last Detective" but read the summary after Suzy's nomination and it looks great! Thank you for suggesting it Suzy.
I'd like to nominate Born in a Burial Gown by Mike Craven. A book based in the beautiful Cumbrian Lake District & a blindingly good read.
The Cinderella Killer by Simon Brett, long one of the most prolific mystery writers from GB, but still under-rated (I think).
