Hello book lovers!

I'm so excited to kick off our year of the classics with George Orwell's 1984! Who of you have read this one before? Who, like me, haven't read it? I tend to feel less bad about missing 1984 since I did read Animal Farm ("All animals are equal!"), but I'm so excited to finally get all of the big brother references that pretty much go over my head. I also think that this book will be particularly relevant to our society today.

Who else is excited??

Kelly (kellyrenee1979) | 2 comments I read this in February 2014 and loved it! The audio was fantastic. The British accent was fabulous and I was riveted throughout the whole book. 4 stars from me. Enjoy everyone!

Cathy Last time I read this 1984 was still in the future, so...

freckledbibliophile I'm excited about this read as well. I've been putting it off for quite some time.

Tia | 2 comments I can't wait! I read Animal Farm also but never got around to 1984. Definitely excited to finally understand all the references.

Holly (hollls) | 6 comments Woo! I'm excited to read this. Just placed my order!

Amanda | 5 comments I read this, last summer and it was a very tortuous read for me. I had a hard time finishing it, and it took me forever because I had no interest in it. I did give Orwell 3 stars because I liked the general warning of the effects of war and how it damages humanity.

Caitlin I've never read this but just took my copy out from the library yesterday!

Kerstin | 6 comments It's been sitting on my Kindle for ages waiting to be read. Looking forward to reading it with all of you!

Kassay I started reading this over the summer, but didn't get very far. I do, however, really want to finish it & enjoy it.

How's everyone doing with 1984? I just stated yesterday, and I'm totally sucked in! This world is so creepy, and the similarities to our own reality are rather unsettling. I can't wait to see where everything goes!

What do you all think of the main character? I'm pretty put-off by his strange feelings toward women - maybe that's part of the point??

freckledbibliophile Hi, everyone! I hope you're all well. Allison, I'll more than likely began reading my copy this weekend. I'm currently reading two books.

Kelly Stevens | 19 comments I finished it last week . It was good . What do you think are the similarities to our reality.

Kerstin | 6 comments I also finished it last week. I liked it. It was disturbing yet thought provoking.

I also wasn't overly fond of the main character, though I thought that maybe his strange feelings are supposed to be a product of his time. Growing up in such a rigid society with such strict rules and regulations would have warped his thoughts and feelings.
