Bustle Reads 2016 discussion

Offered as suggestions are: The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, The BFG, The Little Prince. What else can we add? Who wants to admit they've read Fifty Shades of Grey? Ha!

I read Room and Me Before You that would both count (the Room film came out last week in the UK, so just got it in!)

a) I can't believe I never read Room before, it's BRILLIANT
b) Room the film is also fantastic, Brie Larson totally deserves all of her award nominations and wins, but I can't believe Jacob Tremblay didn't even get nominated?! Though I was surprised that Emma Donaghue also wrote the screenplay but changed a lot of the original story? I figured some things might need to change to translate it, but it just seemed a bit weird.
c) I quite liked Me Before You, but didn't think the writing was amazing...pretty sure the film will make me cry...

I read Half of a Yellow Sun not knowing it was a movie. I immediately saw movie when I found out there was one. Nowhere near as good as the book but it was ok.

American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History is one

I read The Canterville Ghost, then watched the film with Patrick Stewart and Nev Campbell. I enjoyed the book more. The father in the book was arrogant; in the movie he was borderline emotionally neglectful and verbally abusive to his daughter. The movie aged the daughter and added a love interest for her, which filled out the plot, but took away from her innocence.

The canterville ghost was one of my favorite books as a child, it's so good.

I read The Price of Salt before i saw Carol, and I have to admit that I liked the movie so much more. The book was entertaining enough, but the writing was a little to clumsy for my taste, and made it difficult to read at times.

I read The Light Between Oceans and saw the movie with a friend. The book was a 3 star for me, I enjoyed it. The cinematography was just as dreamy and dark as I had imagined when reading the book.

Just read Gone Girl for this one

Americanah was the book I read for this one. I loved it.

I chose Half of a Yellow Sun, but haven't gotten around to actually watching the movie yet!
