The image looked fine when I previewed it, but now it looks like it can't be read. So here is the text.
A book published this year.
A book you can finish in a day.
A book you've been meaning to read.
A book recommended by your local librarian or bookseller.
A book you should have read in school.
A book chosen for you by your spouse, partner, sibling, child, or BFF.
A book published before you were born.
A book that was banned at some point.
A book you previously abandoned.
A book you already own but have never read.
A book that intimidates you.
A book that you have already read at least once.

A book you can finish in a day: Piper Green and the Fairy Tree by Ellen Potter
A book you've been meaning to read: The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews Edwards
A book recommended by your local librarian or bookseller: Arya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol
A book you should have read in school: The Handmaid's Tale
by Margaret Atwood
A book chosen for you by your spouse, partner, sibling, child, or BFF: I can't for the life of me remember the title- but it's about Native Medicine women in history.
A book published before you were born: Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
A book that was banned at some point: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
A book you previously abandoned: Newsflesh Trilogy, #1 by Mira Grant I got 3/4 of the way done with Feed before I gave up. Not what I was expecting.
A book you already own but have never read: The Rot & Ruin Series by Jonathan Maberry I technically own it, never read it though! ;)
A book that intimidates you: Anything that isn't fiction. So I'll get a second recommendation from the Baby Daddy
A book that you have already read at least once: Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JRR Tolkein

Ooh...good question. I think if it's possible to do one book for each line that's the way to go. But at the end of the year if that hadn't happened and you did indeed read a book that covers multiple categories count it. :p As for the released this year. They also sometimes release books straight to paperback. So that might be an option? I don't think there are any definite rules for this thing. :) Its about encouraging participation and encouraging reading. Trying some things outside our normal.

Just so you guys know: You cannot count books you've ALREADY read. It has to be ones that you read in 2016. NOT past books that you've already read unless it specifically says so :)

I think I've completed some of these. A book I've read at least once. A book I can read in a day. A book I've been meaning to read. I'm going to have to double check if I've read a book published this year and a book i previously abandoned. That's almost half of them. Considering I totally slacked the first few months, not bad.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing horrendously. I haven't been reading much lately. :( I have definitely read a book published this year and a book I can finish in a day and a book I've read before. I may have even read a book I already owned but hadn't read. As well as a book I previously abandoned. At least I think I have....
Here's a challenge that looks kind of fun! Just respond to this topic every time you've marked off one of the required books so we can all keep track with you!
