OMG!!!! I may need a moment go compose myself!
I just stumbled across this picture. I have no idea who this lucky girl is but he likes the Leafs!! Well ok, maybe he doesn't really like them or even hockey but he looks amazing in the jersey!

How is everyone making out with the book? Have you been enjoying it?
I am about 100 pages in and loving it.

I haven't started it yet. I've already read it, but I really want to re-read it. I plan on starting hopefully within the next couple of weeks!

Have all you USA residents bought your Powerball tickets? We are not too far from the US border so we have been hearing lots on the news about it.
I often wonder what would happen if you bought a ticket, signed it, won it, then heaven forbid dropped dead of a heart attack. Would the prize money go to your estate if you had not yet claimed it? What do you think?
Things that make you go hmmmmm.

He is my favorite character and that is a great photo of him!

Kit Harington - he was in Pompeii too.
It just strikes me as odd that he is wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. I love the Maple Leafs and I love him. (But I don't love that girl in the picture - I am jealous) He may not know much about hockey but he sure knows how to rock the jersey!

I'm glad there is someone else. I feel like everywhere I go everyone watches it and then they look at me like I'm crazy because I'm just reading.
I read the first 3 books before the tv series was available to watch on dvd and I feel I know so much more than if I just watched the first season without reading. There is so much detail that you can't put into an hour show, like the family trees and descriptions of each kingdom at the back of the book.

I watched the show first and now am reading it for the first time. At times the show was very confusing for me. Reading the book first would definitely have helped me understand a lot of the things that were hard to understand.

LMAO! Too funny. I love Jaime. OK he has his issues but he always means well.
The reason why I chose not to watch the show is because I didn't want the world I've built in my head to be replaced by the one from the show. I also know how different the show is and how many things are missing (for example, the Greyjoy plotline, which is one of my personal favourites; I know Theon and the Greyjoys in general aren't very nice people, but I've had a soft spot for them since Theon's absolute first appearance). It kind of sucks, though, because I feel like I can't discuss ASoIaF with people who've only watched the show because I'm always afraid I'll spoil something for them, and the only other person I know who's read all the books is my sister.PS. I got Tywin, but reading the description, that's very far from the truth.
Terry wrote: "I love Cersei - I guess that's why I got Jaime, haha!"

I love Cersei in the way sometimes your favorite character is the one you love to hate - Tyrion is actually my favorite, because he is one of the smartest people and is also sensitive, but is a good fighter and a great political strategist.
Jon Snow is my next favorite because is so honorable, just like his father.

Yeah I saw I got Tyrion and didn't really read about it because I did think it was quite fitting-kind of a loner, bookworm, type person here! lol Also I tend to avoid my family and think they're crazy ;) lol

Has anyone out there played the G.O.T. Telltale video game?
I love those Telltale games and played the Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us ones. Then I got an email about a flash sale of G.O.T. and said hey why not try it on my PS4. It was quite good.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't watch the show. I'm afraid I wouldn't know any of the actors if I tripped over them.

As much as I am not a fan of him, I can't say that we don't share traits. lol I told my hubby and he legitimately laughed out loud, nodded, and said 'yup!'
I got the Night Watch. I usually get House Stark, so that was unexpected, but I've always been fascinated with the Watch, so yay!
Okay, this is getting really confusing. It takes a long time to find the chapter you're on in the discussion folder, especially if it's way back. I mean.... not that I'm complaining, but I'm complaining (a bit) :D Is there any way to make this more organised? Like making sub-folders for every 10-20 chapters? I'd do it if everyone agrees and if it's possible. Or is there maybe some trick to filter/sort discussion threads that I'm unaware of?

Ria I agree it is confusing. Go ahead and give it a whirl if you come up with something that will work. It is hard to find the one you want for sure.

I fooled around quite a bit and could not set up sub folders. But I did find a way to lock them in order so that they don't jump around by popularity they way they are doing that. I listed chapter one at the top and the appendix at the end.
Does that help? Opinions people.

Yeah, it is. I've enlarged the photo. I love making lists, especially book lists (I have about 5 or 6 different ones right now), because I'm also a procrastinator lvl 9000 and those are the only types of lists I get to finish... eventually.

We are less than a month away till we move onto book #2.
*How is everyone making out?
*Are some of you waiting to start this group read at book #2?
*Are some of you waiting till a book further down the road?
*Are you enjoying the book?
Give us your updates.
I am keeping myself right on track. I have split the book into 8 sections (1 per week for the 2 month stretch) and make sure I read at least that chunk in that week. It helps keep me on track and not get overwhelmed with the size of the book. I am loving the book too. So much more to experience than the tv show.

I think Book 1 was the best book. I actually read the first 2 and tried to listen to books 3 & 4 but was put off by the narrator's voice and delivery. Plus, it went WAY TOO SLOW to listen to all of that and try to remember details. So, I may read the later books with you. I think you have a good system, it prevents one ftom getting overwhelmed.
