What I don't understand is why the narrator ate the weed at 20 if he knew at 10 how terrible it was. Was he born with this different perception of time or was he inevitably drawn toward the plant because he was destined to be a seer? It is an interesting concept but it makes sense that this was such a short story.

I read this one a while back but just re-read it to see if I could answer your question. It's confusing and makes my head hurt because we are thinking about time (view spoiler)[ linearly, with a past, present, and future; but the weed makes you know time all at once with no past/present/future...so before you eat the weed you don't know that when you eat the weed you will know what happens before you eat the weed, ad nuaseum...
