Read this for Week 3 -- Goodreads Choice award.I finally got to this one in April (I changed my mind after waiting a long time for a different selection).
I'm not an Anne Tyler aficionado, so I won't be comparing this book to her other, more famous works. What is this book about? Family, house, home. It's an honest but gentle look at what happens in a family over a number of decades -- almost any family, I'd say. There are secrets that are kept, there are misunderstandings that are never resolved, there is jealousy and resentment. But there is also a bond and the eternal hope that there is love and forgiveness and acceptance. There were passages that made me chuckle out loud, as I recognized myself or someone in family. So I enjoyed it. But it didn't measure up to a 4-star for me. Maybe I'll go back and read Breathing Lessons now.
I keep seeing this one popping up all over the place. I have zero ode what it's about (never actually looked at it), but I'm enthralled by the cover :)
I just finished this one for a book in the middle of your tbr. I have to say I was not a fan. I just really struggled to relate to the characters and was pretty bored by it. Just not my cup of tea.
I am reading this for Week 19: A NY Times BestsellerI had a hard time getting into this book, but on page 90, something clicked, and I am really getting into it now.
My book club is reading it this month and I think the conversation will be lively.
I read this one for a pretty cover. I just did not enjoy it either. The cover is still pretty though.
