Well, I slept in late today, so its 2:15 here. Had some laundry and dishes to do! ;)Anywho, I'm finally getting started on the book! Olivia and I decided to try and go for 5 chapters today, with the possibility of extending to two days. I'm also having fun posting picture progress over on Instagram!
Anyone else decide to join us?
Just finished Chapter 1 a little while ago. So far so good, I'm enjoying it pretty well. I'm dying to know who the "ghostly" scot was that Frank saw staring up at Claire in her window. Strange!
I also would like to know what's going to happen with the little accusation that Frank threw at Claire, wondering if she'd had any affairs while they were apart during the war. After he fell asleep, she found herself wondering if he had asked because he'd had one himself!
Altogether, I'm definitely finding it to be intriguing. Can't wait to get to Chapter 2! (Which I am definitely going to start now! :D )
Yay! I am glad that you are enjoying it! I just got back from work but I have the rest of the day off (it is 2:32pm here), my plan is to finish my current read
, which I only have about 80 pages left and then get into Outlander. I cant wait!!

:D Yay! It's 4:37 here, but I'm a night owl, (which is why I ended up starting so late! :D ) so I'll still have plenty of time to read! If I can finish the five chapters of
, I'd like to get in five or so chapters of
.I got so intrigued by the Kanin Chronicles that I kept putting off going back to it! :\ Bad, bad me.
I just read the first chapter because I couldn't help myself, I like it a lot! There were parts that I were disinterested in but over all I enjoyed it. I liked Frank at first but by the end of the chapter he seemed a little sketchy, do you think he had an affair? I want to learn more about Clair's job it sounds so cool!
I agree, some parts kind of fell off for me, but overall, the interesting parts kept me going. Frank was definitely sketchy by the end! I would really like to know what is going on with him! I really like the tidbits she tells about her nursing career, and the botany really interested me! Overall, I now want to buy a vase and a book on botany! ;)
Oh and yes, I'm leaning towards the thought that he had an affair. The whole "I'll love you anyway" part struck me as more of a "Will you still love me?" kind of thing.
Just finished chapter two! Now, while this chapter did still have a few parts that didn't really peak my interest, the interesting parts held me over through them!Frank is still bugging me. He is very hot and cold. Completely ignoring her at times. I don't know what to make of him yet. I would like to know what role he played in the war, something that Claire wonders about as well.
Also, the group of modern day, female Druids definitely peaked my interest. All things occult tend to interest me. And I'm still kind of dying to buy a book on botany! I live on a very large piece of land, and I'd love to go out with my son and hunt down some useful plants! (My son is five, and is curious about the world!)
Finished the first five chapters! I had no trouble staying interested in the story. Of course there was some world building parts or information drops that were less interesting, but overall it held my attention.I liked seeing how Claire's knowledge of alchemy transferred into the 18th century. I like her character, strong willed, foul mouth and not so easy to bully for the most part. So far I like Jamie. He seems to be a fairly nice guy, if one with a not so nice history.
I think the thing that really bugged me was the fact that she accepted everything too quickly. Even before she found proof of the year, she didn't really question as hard as I thought she would have. Of course that could have been because of Frank's ancestor being a world class jerk and then the later run in with the English. But still. She seemed very accepting of the fact that she was being held captive by the Scots, even going so far as to play nurse maid to Jamie. I'm just not sure about her reactions, to sum it up. But that may play out later on. Could simply be her still holding out hope that by just touching the stone again, she'll go home.
We'll just have to see! Overall though, the descriptions were beautifully written, the accents of the other characters were portrayed pretty well, and the characters themselves seem good so far.
Can't wait to get on to the next bit!

I just finished ch.2! And now going on to 3 but I just wanted to say that I don't like Frank at all! Other than the fast that he is sometimes cold with Claire, he is just super boring! I think Claire's character is very interesting and I can't wait to learn more about her.
Anyways, I am now going onto chapter 3! I will update soon (:

Agreed. The whole wrapped up in his genealogy thing gets really tedious after a while. I just kept thinking, okay frank, that's great. Can you do something romantic with your wife now? Or fun even? This is supposed to be your second honeymoon!!!
Ahhh yes. Captain Randall. He makes me wonder about Frank's genetics. Maybe that's why Frank is so strange.
haha! He is so weird! I don't really know what Claire saw in him, I feel like she has a wild side
I am done reading all 5 chapters! I really enjoyed the last 3, like we talked about. I think Jamie sounds really cute! Way better than Frank ;) It was interesting seeing Frank's great (times 6) grandfather.
You are right though, Claire hardly takes a second glance when finding out she traveled back in time, I would be freaking the hell out!!
I don't read a lot of novels where the characters have strong accents so it will take some getting used to, but for the most part I think I'm understanding most of it.
I cant wait to read more!
Also, how many chapters/what page do you want to read to tomorrow? (:

Hmmm, I'm good with shooting for five again, or more or less, depending on what you'd prefer. It's the weekend, so I usually have more time I can set aside to read, so it doesn't matter much to me!I agree though, I very much like Jamie more than Frank.
The accents, while well portrayed, are definitely hard to catch on to at first. It was close to the end of chapter five before I started reading it without having to slow down for some dialogue parts. I had to reread quite a few conversations at first. Lol.
I had to reread a lot too! Lol hopefully we get used to it soon!
I also want to visit Scotland right now ): It's been at the top of my 'places I want to go in the world list' for awhile now!!
Why don't we aim for finishing up part 2 tomorrow? I believe it's around the same number of pages we read today (: we can always adjust that number though if things change!

Sounds perfect! I'm excited! And just wanted to note, this being my first buddy read, I wasn't sure what to expect. You're an awesome reading buddy and you've been so helpful explaining everything to me! Once we finish this one, I'd love to do another one with you at some point! :)
Aw thank you! You have been awesome too, I would love to read more with you after this! Honestly, I like reading more with a "buddy," it's fun because there's someone to talk about what you just read!
I'm finally getting back to outlander! Did some recording for YouTube today, (book video and a gaming vid. Im starting a witcher lets play!) and read quite a but of Mistborn! But now....but now! It's time for some more outlander! Im quite excited to get back into it. Olivia have you gotten any further yet?
I've actually had a really busy day, I've read chapter 6. I plan on reading more tonight though (:
I totally understand! It might need to be extended to tomorrow....I've sat my book down somewhere....and now I can't find it... Lol.Apparently I really need to go to bed. I have read chapter 6 as well, and a little of chapter seven. Now just to find the darned thing.
Ugh!
I found it! I'm going to try to get most of, if not all of, part two read tonight, but it may be morning before I post my thoughts!Oh, and just FYI. It was in the bathroom, on the towel shelf, shoved on top of a bunch of towels....not even sure when I could have left it there... So random. Then again, I once found my shampoo in the deep freeze...I tend to be a touch scatterbrained sometimes! Lol.
Oh my gosh that is so funny!! Whenever I loose things they are usually just in my car.. Not in my freezer!! Lol
I probably won't post my thoughts till tomorrow as well, I am going to probably read a few chapters tonight and then finish up part 2 in the morning as well (:

Well, I lack just the last bit of this chapter and I'll be done with part 2! I won't post anything detailed until morning, but I will say that I'm really liking:1) Seeing Claire finding her place. Working with herbs and medicines, making a friend, helping in the gardens and just generally settling in.
2) Finally seeing some frustration with her predicament and some serious desire to escape back to the stones.
3) The slow build of hers and Jamie's friendship. No one is jumping headfirst into instalove, which is wonderful!
So I've read chapter six and seven so far! But I need to go to sleep, I can't keep my eyes open much longer! ): I will continue in the morning and hopefully finish the second part then.
Also don't feel like you have to wait for me, if you want to keep reading! (:

So I did end up finishing pat two last night. I probably would have read more but I was exhausted! Then today I got sucked back into Mistborn and finally finished it off! So I covered most of my thoughts in the previous post. The only thing more that I'd like to add is that Dougal is making me slightly...okay maybe a lot....suspicious. I want to see what is going to happen on the trip that he, Claire and Jamie are going on. Hmm. Did you end up finishing part 2?
Yes I have read up to part 2; I am loving it! I wonder how this next part is going to play and what's going to happen! I agree that Dougal is very suspicious, I feel like he has something planned while they are on this "road trip."
Up to you, I'm fine with reaching a certain amount by tomorrow! Part three looks to be chapters 11-23 so maybe shoot for five more chapters? More if the mood strikes us?
I haven't yet, though I am planning to. I started reading crystal kingdom....and I got thoroughly wrapped up. I'm nearly done, and I'll be starting on chapter 11!!! So how is it going? Is it getting interesting?
I just finished chapter 15 and I am going to stop until you catch up but no rush! And yes I am loving it! It is getting really good! I can't really decide how I feel right now about what just happened but you will know what I am talking about when you get there haha!
Oh goodness! Well if I don't finish tonight (or rather morning. It's 1:30 am. ) I'll finish early tomorrow. I just finished Crystal Kingdom......Can we say book mourning here??? I cannot believe it's over. it was freaking fantastic!
I know....it was a productive day! ;) Of course since it's 2am, not sure it counts as today. Lol. This is when I read. Late at night. I get some reading done during the day but it's sporadic, during mealtimes and the rare occasion that my kids play together happily. ;) Now I'm going to try and get at least a chapter of outlander in, before I crash. I hate it when I read to the point of exhaustion and drop the hook on my face....and I won't admit how often that happens! ;)
Haha! That's happens to me often as well! I mostly read at night too. Well enjoy reading outlander! I hope you are loving it!
Alrighty, so I'm reading chapter 14 now, I've just left off after Jamie gave her his mother's pearls. :D So far, I'm loving it! I really was all prepared to hate Dougal. But when he saw her face after Captain Randall had punched her and whisked her away, intending to find a way not to hand her over to him, he definitely won my favor. He seems to be a good man at heart, if a bit brutish. And Ahhh, Jamie so far. I really want to find the wedding episode and see him all handsome and decked out in Scottish regalia! So I'm not quite to whatever it is that made you feel a little unsure, but I had to stop for a minute to post that I've decided that I actually do like Dougal thus far!
Yay!! Isn't Jamie soo cute? I also want to watch that episode right now! I am also starting to like Dougal more!
I agree on that. It feels slightly icky because it was forced and he's a virgin. But at the same time, I don't see where Jamie or Claire really had a viable choice. Randall would have killed Claire if she'd been turned over to him.
Finished Chapter 15! And oh lord. The witnesses outside the door. I'd really like to know why he slept with a knife.... and what his other reasons were for marrying her. The ones he couldn't tell her yet! :DI think I might continue on a bit more today, since, for once, I'm not reading anything else!
