I look around. "And I am meant to be impressed? I have influenced the construction of the secret forts of the Knights Templar, I have seen far more impressive war camps than his."
Jewel rolled her eyes. "No. You weren't supposed to be impressed. And this isn't a war camp. It's supposed to be small and indiscreet so we aren't discovered so easily."
"Yes, but revenge is not about sneaking, it is about quick, powerful blows to the enemy's numbers and morale. The fewer strikes it takes, the better."
Jewel frowned. "You're new so I'm going to explain how us hunters work. We don't do quick and powerful, we do stealth. There are millions of Mythicals but few hunters, so quick and powerful blows and whatever would most likely take out more hunters than it would Mythicals. Every once in a while we will do bursts where we grab ten or more Mythicals at a time, but we usually just pick them out one by one. We've already made enough of an impression that most Mythicals fear us, but if we went out into the open and tried to grab them, we would be overwhelmed by the ones who don't fear us."
I take off the helmet and grin. "Not with me you won't..." I rest my hand on the hilt of my sword, just in case any hunters go insane.
"Maybe not. But we still need to evaluate you. We have a system. We don't just go running around capturing and or destroying Mythicals all willy nilly."
"Skeletons and haunted armour. Sounds fun. I can get you there I suppose. When do you need to go?"
"Okay." Jewel waved a boy that looked about eleven over. "Tell Ronin I'm taking a potential newbie to the Middle East. If he asks how long I'll be gone, tell him I'll probably gonna be gone for about a month. If he doesn't ask, don't say anything about it. And if you see Fear around make sure nobody kills him." The boy nodded and ran off. She turned to Judgement. "Do you have a preferred method of transport?"
Jewel whistled loudly and a second later a massive black dragon landed behind her, almost crushing the camp. "Hope you don't mind dragons. I usually take Onyx when I go on long flights."
The dragon growled and Jewel shushed him. "He's not a pet. Fear is a pet. Onyx is part of the clan. He helps the rest of us."
The dragon studied Judgement, then raised his head higher and snorted. He made a rumbling noise and Jewel grinned. "He says that he can probably stand you if you don't call him a pet ever again."
Onyx huffed, but Jewel patted his neck. She turned around so her back was up against the dragon's neck. She laced her fingers behind her head. "Brace yourself," she told Judgment. Before he could respond, Onyx launched into the sky.
Onyx snarled and dove down suddenly, almost whipping Judgment off. He snorted and made another rumbling noise. "He was going easy since you've never ridden him specifically before. And he also wants you to stop using whatever wind magic you're using to try and speed us up," Jewel informed him.
Onyx swished his tail up and thumped Judgment on the head.
Jewel laughed. "It would probably be best if you stayed quiet until we need directions."
Jewel laughed. "It would probably be best if you stayed quiet until we need directions."
Jewel walked into the camp and gestured around for Alen. "It's so empty because everyone else is on their on little trips," she explained.
Alen nodded. It was a decent camp, with cabins and tools. It was obviously meant to be inconspicuous. "So, what I am getting from this is that you tend to leave your camp, unprotected, and then just wonder around? Charming." Alen looked at Jewel, crossing his arms. "Give me a reason why I should keep listening."((So rude. You know what they say. When a boy likes a girl, he tends to be all mean and rude. Alen: I do not like her!!!!!!!!))
Jewel barked a laugh. "It's not unprotected! We have Onyx!" She whistled and a moment later a massive black dragon crashed down behind her. "Alen, meet Onyx. He's our guard dragon." Onyx growled and puffed a cloud of dark smoke around Alen.
((Jewel: Right. Just like how I don't like you. *nods*))
((Jewel: Right. Just like how I don't like you. *nods*))
Alen coughed, and glanced at Jewel once the smoke dissipated. "Good enough. Continue." Alen said, a small smile playing on his lips. He realized the action and quickly straitened out his features.
Jewel snickered. "You have ash on your face." Onyx made a huffing snarling sound, clearly laughing, then shot off into the sky. Jewel watched him go then turned back to Alen. "Here." She wiped the ash off of his forehead and cheek with her thumb, then swirled around and started walking to the largest cabin, partially hiding the blush that she felt on her face. Hey! Knock that off! You don't blush! Ever! Not even when you act!
Alen nodded and looked at Jewel's back, feeling heat creep into his cheeks. No. He told himself. Don't go around falling for crazy and nosy bandits you just met. You know better than that... Alen shook his head and followed, the blush gone from his cheeks. "Very skilled craftsmanship." Alen commented, looking at the large cabin.
Jewel nodded then kicked the door open and shouted, "Hey Ronin! You still here?" She waited for a moment and when there was only silence she rolled her eyes. "He'd better get his sorry behind back here soon," she mumbled. She turned around to face Alen with a bright smile. "Ronin, the leader, isn't here right now so I suppose I'll just show you around myself."
"Great." Alen replied, a placid expression on his features. He would be sure to keep any emotions he had on the inside from now on. Well, try. It'd been a while since- Alen scowled, willing his brain not to go down that stupid and useless path. It was insignificant, and Alen had shut it down long ago.
"Come along duckling," she chirped, skipping towards the bunk cabin, which was the second biggest cabin.
Alen rolled his eyes. He did not complain, thinking back to how the dragon had gotten ash all over his face. And how Jewe- No. No no no no no. He followed Jewel towards the next cabin, suppressing his emotions into the deepest and darkest corner of his mind. Try to come back now, you foolish thoughts!
Jewel flung the door open to reveal a fairly nice bunker. She walked in and gestured around. "This is where everyone but spoiled Ronin sleeps."
"Well, it's pretty nice for a bunker." Alen said, looking around. "What is the purpose of this clan?" Alen looked at Jewel.
"I've already told you silly!" Jewel laughed lightly. "We catch the nuisances most other refer to as Mythicals."
"Sorry. I forgot." Alen said with a scowl. "I am quite impressed by the size and security of your clan, but I really don't see how I could be of service to your mission." Alen fiddled with his bow, feeling a little out of place.
"Well, like I said, we need another trapper. We have the Trappers, like me, we trap the Mythicals. Then there's the Traders, the ones who deal with the Mythicals we catch, the Scouts, the ones who look around for Mythicals, the Sweeps, the ones who keep the camp organized and tidy, and the Tenders, they take care of our animals." Jewel gestured around the room again. "This is where the Trappers, Traders, and Scouts stay. The Sweeps and Tenders sleep in a different cabin or not at all, depending on how they treat the higher ranking Hunters."
Alen nodded. "I see." He looked around again. "I must admit, I am slightly tempted by your offer." Alen looked back at Jewel. "And you are offering a high position." He narrowed his eyes, contemplating his options. "Where do you keep the Mythicals?" Alen asked. "I am guessing a well hidden area?"
"Actually, they're not hidden at all. Not the ones we catch. We place trackers and microphone on them without their knowledge and let them go until the Traders are ready for them. We make it seem like they escaped on their own though, so they don't get suspicious."
