Desmondella (treasuryoftomes) Hey, guys! Most of you probably don't even know who I am or that I help run this group because my mental health has been horrible lately and I haven't been able to get on here very much to help Nicky out, but I'm working to change that. I'd love it if you added me as a friend or messaged me if you'd like to. I want to make some new friends and fangirl about books with you! :)

Anywho, with that out of the way, I thought I'd create a thread where all members of the group could take part in reading sprints.

If you don't know what a reading sprint is, it's basically where you and one or more people in the group decide on a time to start reading, how long to read for and when to stop and you then read as many pages as you can in the given time period.

Make sure when you are deciding on a time to start, you don't put the hour. Only put the minutes. Everyone is in a different time zone so this way it might be 10 o'clock at night for one person and 2 o'clock in the afternoon for someone else but if you just write down :00 then you will both know when to start.

An example of how to suggest a reading sprint would be: 25 (the length of time you want to sprint for) @ :00? (the time you want to start). You then read as much as you can for 25 minutes straight. Feel free to stop if something comes up (bathroom break, certain interruption) and join right in when you can again. The pages you read won't be affected.

After the sprint is complete, everyone participating in it comes back to this thread and announces how many pages they were able to read in the sprint.

Doing sprints is a great way to motivate yourself to read more pages quicker than you normally would.

I hope you guys like the idea of this thread and all join in sprints with each other! I am almost always around for sprints when I am online so I can't wait to sprint with you guys! :)

Mimi Marten | 11 comments I feel bad that nobody replied....:-((

Carissa, I think people are just so busy that they get their reading done when they can steal time away. It doesn't matter if you are a stay at home mom or an executive..., reading became a guilty pleasure, time stolen away in selfish /yeah, yeah self-worth/ hiding. Many times replacing much needed sleep.

I can only speak for myself but I read whenever and wherever I can. Waiting rooms, doctor offices, pickup lines....

And personally I don't like to read fast... I like to take it all in, sometimes even go back and stew on it. But that's just me

I think it's harder for people to come to a Goodreads group for a reading sprint than perhaps going to Twitter or simply reading on their own. Especially if you're busy, you tend to snatch any free time you have to read as much as possible. In those cases, it's much easier for people to simply read at their own pace.

But I do think this is a great idea if a group of people decided to join a read-a-thon together or buddy read the same book. This discussion would be a really good place for reading sprints then. Adds a bit of a competitive edge to a read-a-thon or buddy read.

Personally, I just don't do well with reading sprints. Writing sprints, I have no problem with. But reading sprints feel a bit too pressurizing for me. I tend to prefer reading a book and just getting immersed in the story, instead of trying to read as many pages as possible in a span of time.

Perhaps this would work well as a weekly or bi-weekly thing where a time and date is set for an hour or more. That way, people who want to set aside that hour or so of time to read can join and everyone can do a reading sprint together.
