A Book that scares me
13½ by Nevada Barr – 3.5*** Much darker and more terrifying than the Anna Pigeon series by which most readers know Nevada Barr. I was captivated from the beginning, and Barr held my attention throughout. There is considerable foul language, and some very graphic scenes of violence. Dan John Miller does a fine job of narrating the audiobook.

JoLene wrote: "What's the difference between 8. a book of short stories
20. a collection of short stories"
We discussed this back at Shelfari. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it was determined a book of short stories would be all written by one author whereas a collevtion is mors like an anthology, with short stories all written by different authors.
Book that was made into a movie
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl – 3***A classic children’s story with a message about good behavior being rewarded. I never read it as a child and I found it a bit over-the-top, but I can see the great appeal that this kind of “fairy tale” holds for children. Eric Idle does a marvelous job of narrating the audio book. All his skill as a voice artist is put to good use creating unique characters. I’d give him 4 stars for his narration.

QUESTION re: 17. A book that takes place in your hometownDo you want the actual city/town? Or will the state be close enough?
>46 That's a good question. I also think "hometown" can be defined in different ways. What I consider my hometown is the town I lived in when I was born (Ardill, Saskatchewan - apparently less than 10 people lived there when I did and it's probably fewer than that now!). So, I can guarantee there are no books set there!
I think some people consider "hometown" the town/city where they grew up. That town for me, had about 1300 people at the time. Now there is about 1200. I was going to say there are probably no books set there, either, but I know that's a lie!
I'm thinking it must have been self-published, but there was a biography of one of the kids I knew who was in the "special class" when I was in school, written by his mother, I think. I read that a number of years ago. My parents also have a biography of one of the former doctors who practiced there and I was going to borrow that book (I just found out about that book over the Christmas holidays and they had the book with them).
Huh! Didn't expect that, but I could probably use that book to fit the "hometown" one... if I consider hometown the town I grew up in (moved there from Ardill when I was 2-1/2).
Alternately, there is the city I live in now. With over 1 million people, there is bound to be a book or two set here... I guess I've already read one or two, so there must be more out there.
Sorry - I really got off on a tangent there!
Here are mine so far:9. A Nonfiction Book: The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey
14. A Book Set in the Future: The Martian 2035
16. A Book you own but have never read Quartet in Autumn
28. A book with nonhuman characters The Lord of the Rings
A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams4. A book published this year.
My review can be found on the PBT shelf.
Book Concierge wrote: "QUESTION re: 17. A book that takes place in your hometown. Do you want the actual city/town? Or will the state be close enough?"It should be more specific than the state but can certainly be the closest large town.
For example, my hometown is a fairly small city in northwest Missouri. I am probably not going to find a book set there. However, I grew up not far from Kansas City and often tell people that is where I am from when asked, then narrow it down if they are actually familiar with the area. I will like call KC my "hometown" for this challenge.
If you moved around a lot, then pick the place you most consider your "hometown"!
