I occasionally feel guilty that I comment on these "random ruminations" threads more often than actual book discussions, but it is what it is! :)I'll start the griping with the fact that I work in an office with only 1 other office worker. The rest of the staff are "Professional Staff." My office mate is out for 4-6 weeks and the pros decided NOT to invest in a temp because we didn't have time to train anyone, so how much help could they be?
In the 2 weeks I have been alone they have made not a single allowance for it and I thought I was going to lose it yesterday. I won't actually, but it is a daily struggle.
(just venting...)

Dang!
You know what that made me think of . . . when we were short staffed and super stressed but still had to get the job done. So, I was doing my work and trying to keep it up to snuff - so much so that they told my supervisor that they were thinking we didn't need more people because we were obviously getting the work done!
But, we were working 60 hours a week and ready to collapse! They did not take that into consideration at all!

Same here! I am doing my job and hers and the rabbi (my ultimate boss!) said "Why are we paying 2 full time office people when Kandice can obviously get the job done?"I thought I was going to cry so couldn't get up the vocal fortitude to explain that "getting it done" is pretty much killing me! It's a conversation I will need to have before she gets back because I do NOT want them thinking this can continue indefinitely.

You seriously need to communicate your overload to someone before they merge those positions into one. What happens if you get sick? Or take Holidays? What happens if you burn out? Honestly, management needs to care more about the people, and not always the bottom line.

Yes! Ally - you will be a great resource to give us tips on this topic. I assume US HR is somewhat similar to Canadian HR? Maybe??

Probably close enough. Seems to me Canada might have more equity laws and tends to be more accepting of unions... But overload wise, I imagine the problem is very similar.
Funny enough, the jobs I worked in before had actual HR dept.s and heads, but this is just a small religious institution, non-profit, which lends to the "let's save a penny any way we can" mentality. I did say something yesterday and everyone apologized, saying they just know I can get things done and didn't realize I was overwhelmed, blah, blah, blah. I don't know if it will help, though, because realistically there is NO ONE else that knows how to do the things that need to be done.
I'm sure some of my stress is due to just getting over being very sick and the situation we have with caring for my father-in-law, but all together, everything feels so, so, so heavy.
And, I love my job, otherwise. I mean really, really love it. I am doing things I would never be able to do somewhere else.
Got a new minivan today! We upgraded to that from our 2002 Chevy Blazer. With our two toddlers, we need it!
Driving a new car is so exciting! I’ve never had a brand new car, but I still feel nervous for the first few weeks thinking I’ll hit or bump into something.
Ok, since we are going to start a true crime book I am wondering if anyone saw the series on Netflix called Making a Murderer? It is a 10 episode documentary and they released all the episodes in December. Well, let me tell you... It was CRAZY as in CRAZY. I can not believe that happened in America. Seriously crazy. If you like that kind of show you should watch it. I am curious to know what anyone else thinks. I am just dumbfounded and can hardly believe it all went down like that.
I even didn't read and watched all the episodes in less than a week! lol
I have been hearing a lot about it lately and I am very curious. The hype reminds me around the hype the Serial podcast had last year (which I still need to listen to!)
I've heard a lot about it, but not seen it. Vicki, can you describe it in more detail? Is it about how serial killers grew up? How they were captured? What?
No... it is the story of one man Steven Avery (dont look him up unless you want to know the resolution of his story). He was convicted of rape/assault in 1985 and spent 18 years in jail. He was exonerated by DNA and got out. He sued and was about to get a huge amount of money. There were some hinky things done by police/prosecutors at his trIal for personal reasons. Right before he was to settle (like days before), they arrested him for MURDER. Let me leave it there but what follows is abhorrent. It involves a 16 yr old developmentally delayed child. More misconduct and an insane amount of crazy. It is frightening that this is a true story that actually happened to someone. I am curious what others think because my mom has the exact polar opposite view of what my husband and I think. But the other thing is that I cant stop thinking about it. I am really bothered by the whole thing.
So the whole thing is about this one guy? I didn't realize that. I thought it was about murderers in general. It sounds very interesting, but also very upsetting. I'm off in two hours and it is raining cats and dogs. Maybe I'll snuggle in a blanket and dive into a few episodes. Thanks!
Yeah, the rain and wind has been here all day! I hope my patio roof doesnt blown off!I have been under a blanket watching X-Files from the beginning and am cooking a chicken to make some soup. We arent used to this weather!
Cant wait to hear what you think.
Us too. The streets are full of trees and branches and our neighbors 30 ft pine just fell into our back yard. Nothing but the fence was smashed, but it looks surreal. It's so big!
Sorry I have been somewhat out of the Goodreads loop the past few days. Some family emergency stuff - don't need to dump the details of my baggage on you guys! But, if you are the type to pray or send good thoughts - my Mom sure can use them!
Got paged for work overnight - I was up for almost 4 hours. Reading is not going to go well today!
Random question: I see all of these people put memes and gifs in their status update. Anybody know how to do that?
Yes indeed! Do this - but remove the space after the < and before the >

Is the image address the link?I can't believe I work on a computer all day and manage our website and still feel almost computer illiterate at times!
Yes - I just searched on google images for "Smiley Face". I picked the first image, right clicked on it and "Copy Image Address"
I got this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...
When I put it in the the code before removing spaces I get this:

I have had some images not work before - what is the address you are trying to post? Also, remember it has to be the address of the image itself, not the website it is on - I have made that mistake before!
Okay - yeah - I have had that problem before - and I think I left out an step . . . I believe if you copy the image address out of the search itself it will not work, you have to click on the image until it is the only thing open in the browser. From a website, usually you can just right click on the image to get the address, but google search imbeds it weird.

I clicked on the image and it brought up the website it is on, then I right clicked on the image and got the link that ends in jpg:

when you do the image search and pull up the picture, click on view image. The image address is in the URL box at the top of the page.
*Grumble* In case you were wondering if it is illegal to pull out into an intersection when you are in a turn lane waiting for oncoming traffic to let up or stop - yes, yes it is!
Oh no! That is a bummer... Here are my thoughts on that ...
(we will see if I am as clever as I think I am!)
