Jackal: Marilyn Manson - Irresponsible Hate Anthem / Harry Chapin - Cat's in the CradleLorn: Wagner - Flight of the Valkyries / Frank Sinatra - My Way
Octavia: Beyonce - Run the World (Girls)
I think a good song for Sevro would be So What by Three Days Grace. For Darrow I think Wretched and Divine by Black Veil Brides would be a good fit, but his song for Eo should be The Ghost of You by My Chemical Romance.
Fun topic! I play this game with most books I read. Here are the songs that I thought of while reading (at least the ones I remember):Darrow: The Cave by Mumford & Sons or Icarus by Bastille
Eo: After the Storm by Mumford & Sons
Mustang and Darrow: King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men
Cassius: Something from my highschool emo days about having an epic overreaction to heartbreak. Pick your favorite from the following: Rocks Tonic Juice Magic by Saves the Day, Seventy Times Seven by Brand New, There's no "I" in Team by Taking Back Sunday, OR, on a more serious note, Bad Blood by Bastille
**Possible Spoiler Alerts**
Fitchner: Yankee Bayonet by The Decemberists (yes it's about the Civil War but I think it works for his back story)
Karnus: Heads will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Bad joke I know, but I couldn't resist)
Thanks, Andrea and Rachel, for participating. Love the idea of a song from Darrow to Eo and Ghost of You is a great choice. King and Lionheart for Darrow and Mustang is awesome too (and love the Karnus pick). Not familiar with the other songs you two mentioned though. Time to do some research on that.
I rarely think of music in relationship to characters, but there is a song stuck in my head lately since these posts. It relates to a scene rather than a character, in GS Ch 40 MUD. I hear Radiohead's "Lucky". And sometimes "Airbag". Better yet, how about the whole Ok Computer album for this series?
Great topic. Some of these may not be well know but here's what I came up with.Darrow: One Thing by Finger Eleven and Calm Like A Bomb by Rage Against The Machine.
Adrius: Am I Evil? by Metallica and Stain of Mind by Slayer.
Sevro: We'rewolf by Every Time I Die https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BABnj...
Cassius: Enemies by Ashes Divide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pimgT...
Eo: My Sacrifice by Creed
Shout out to the Howlers: Thistle and Weeds by Mumford & Sons. More the title than the song itself.
Still thinking about possibilities for Mustang, Roque and others.

I can totally picture Lucky playing as soon as Darrow and the rest hit the water and start sinking after the EMP blast.

Love the Every Time I Die shout out. Saw them open up for Lamb of God years ago when they were like 17 years old. Glad to see they've become pretty popular. Well deserved.
David wrote: "Denise wrote: "I rarely think of music in relationship to characters, but there is a song stuck in my head lately since these posts. It relates to a scene rather than a character, in GS Ch 40 MUD. ..."OMG YES! That is exactly what I pictured too.
Here's another..... for any epic battle in the series, but I mostly picture it during Darrow's run to the Sovereign's ship, alone, in Ch 41 Achilles.
Deftones (my all-time fave band) "You've seen the Butcher"
Denise wrote: "David wrote: "Denise wrote: "I rarely think of music in relationship to characters, but there is a song stuck in my head lately since these posts. It relates to a scene rather than a character, in ..."One of my favorite bands as well.
How about Knife Party for the duel between Darrow and Cassius?
Chevelle is always good!David: How about Knife Party for the duel between Darrow and Cassius?
Yeah! or maybe "Leathers" from the Koi No Yokan album? And "Entombed" for Mustang.
Knife Party is great! I gotta look up more Deftones though. For some reason I stopped listening after White Pony. I can picture Elite playing anytime Ragnar goes into action and starts killing with sickening brutality.

I know! It was supposed to release last fall. Been waiting for it! Glad to know another Deftones/GR fan!
- Laid to Rest by Lamb of God as the Iron Rain falls;- Hurt, Johnny Cash version while Darrow is at the Luna party contemplating detonating the bomb;
- Family Tree by TV on the Radio for the scene after the siege of Mars when Darrow is relaxing with the Howlers and Roque;
- Indifference by Pearl Jam after Darrow has killed Julian and is horrified at what he's done;
- Walk by Pantera during the duel between Darrow and Cassius. Knife Party is awesome, but Darrow just totally dominates and humiliates Cassius, and I think Walk really fits a scene where someone just gets completely destroyed in a fight.
Denise wrote: "I know! It was supposed to release last fall. Been waiting for it! Glad to know another Deftones/GR fan!"Haha, I'm just waiting on Tool's new album. Only 10 years in the making. I can picture Lateralus playing as Darrow walks out of the room after having slapped around Pliny.

Oh yeah, Sevro's song! Had to look that one up but it fits.

There are a few songs by Pantera that I can relate to the books.
Mouth For War - Ragnar
Strength Beyond Strength - Pax
F@cking Hostile, Domination...

I always put on my metal playlist while reading this series. I love the poetry and emotional depth of the story, but I LIVE for the moments when Darrow's rage takes over.
Anything off of Sepultura's Chaos AD album is also great during the story's action scenes.

Mouth for War is perfect for Ragnar and a really good song too. I like it!

That's a great song for the Jackal.
I somehow always had John William's "Imperial March" on my mind when there were action scenes, and in relation to Ragnar.
Mozart for Mustang and Beethoven for Roque.

Thanks! Why Mozart for Mustang and Beethoven for Roque?
My answer contains spoilers for Morning Star. Do not open before you have finished reading it. (view spoiler)
Ragnar - "Before I forget" - Slipknot Whenever I read the parts with Ragnar in battle this is the only song that comes to mind.
I think a fitting song for the Jackal could be Ghost in the Mirror by Motionless in White since the song is about someone who doesn't have a heart and has a deadness to them.
Andrea wrote: "I think a fitting song for the Jackal could be Ghost in the Mirror by Motionless in White since the song is about someone who doesn't have a heart and has a deadness to them."Or for Antonia

Yes, the song would fit Antonia for sure especially since the song is about a girl.
I definitely agree with King and Lionheart by Monsters of Men for Mustang and Darrow though the song can be applied to Sevro and Darrow too.I will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie for Sevro.
Sinister Kid by the Black Keys/ Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads / Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge/ Handlebars by Flobots for the Jackal.(I have a playlist dedicated to him haha)
Soldier, Poet, King by the Oh Hellos for Cassius, Roque and Darrow's Institute Days
Good Soldier by Flobots for Cassius (post-series)
For the Iron RainAsteroid by Killing Joke

or
Bitter End by Fit For A King

Would love to hear Pierce's take on this.
My picks:
Darrow: Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls / Ennio Morricone - Ecstasy of Gold / and one for the ladies who love him: Sia - Reaper
Mustang: Imagine Dragons - Radioactive / Rihanna - Breaking Dishes
Cassius: Tupac - Hit em Up
Roque: Mozart - Piano Concerto No. 20, 2nd Movement / All-American Rejects - Stab My Back
Sevro: Anything by Dead Kennedys
