“Where Solutreans Landed” by Larry Moniz is one journalist’s perspective of key accumulated scientific research and evidence of what peoples may have been among the earliest arrivals to the shores of the Western Hemisphere. Current archeological evidence strongly suggests one or more migrations that significantly precede any crossing through Beringia by, at least, several thousand years. Thus, the obvious conclusion is that Clovis Firsters cling to an outmoded theory that is incorrect based on currently available scientific evidence and extrapolations.

Indeed, because findings span a significant range of millennia in throughout The Americas, it is reasonable to conclude that migrations arrived from several starting points in Asia as well as Europe and, perhaps, Africa. Those originating from North of the Equator likely were spurred by the Last Glacial Maximum as the ice age conditions forced many peoples from their original lands.

Evidence from the so-called Cinmar Site proved to be the highly-faceted gem in the researchers’ crown. A team of experts from the Smithsonian Institution has verified the Laurel Leaf point recovered from the edge of the Continental Shelf, amid Mastodon bones, clearly was produced by advanced Solutrean blade knapping technology but, astoundingly, was crafted approximately 22,000 years ago from Pennsylvania stone!

Just when you thought you knew which end was up...So are they saying these flint knappers from Pennsylvania came along the same route as the Clovis Pointers much earlier and made it all the way to the Midwest, or are they saying these people pulled a Leif Ericsson and came from the other direction?
