Paul Yeah the whole relationship is odd. I know Doyle is trying yo be funny but its more weird. Even the whole never knowing her first name makes the relationship a bit of a fetish.
I also agree that the start is a lot better. I think it runs really well up to the rising then its average to the end. Its all a bit more fun and cheeky until he grows up

Donna McCaul Thibodeau (celtic_donna) | 1150 comments I thought it was a fun read although I also thought the relationship between Henry and Miss O'Shea was odd, to say the least. There was a part in the book when he says something about being shot against a wall in Chicago - did anyone else catch that? It's never referenced again in the book.

Colleen | 1205 comments I finished this last night I liked it but didn't love it. I really liked Henry and I really liked that the novel wasn't written with rose colored glasses . However as everyone is saying the relationship between Henry and Miss O'Shea IS ODD. Why didn't he want to know her first name .Was his daughter 's name Freedom. The ending was a little confusing and I don't know if I want to read the rest of the trilogy...This is the first novel I've read by Roddy Doyle.

Paul I hated the second book in this set but don't let it put you off Doyle in general

Colleen | 1205 comments No I will read more by Doyle I liked it well enough but I think I will read the Barrytown trilogy the next time before I continue with Henry. Yes Henry and Miss O'shea did have a very weird relationship . He had a lot of odd relationships . His granny for instance , why wasn't she there to take care of him .
