Cassandra Rose (yrchmonger) I really enjoyed Slade House but I can see how that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Tiffany (angelized_1st) | 13 comments The Woman in Black was a really good haunted house story.

Christine Blake Slade House is really excellent, I read it towards the end of last year and really enjoyed it. But it probably is an acquired taste.

Eva I agree with you on The Haunting of Gillespie House I thought it was rather lame. Completely different is The Elementals. It is well written with a great build up and some scary scenes.
As I wrote in another thread I just started reading House of Leaves. Up to now it's great!

Latasha (latasha513) It's hard to find a really good haunted house book. I've read some but didn't love any enough to recommend them. :(

Latasha (latasha513) A Haunting this is on sale for 99 cents today. I bought it. I'd be interested in doing a buddy read if you decide to get it too. or anyone!

Ecem Yücel (ecemyucel) | 1 comments Hi :) There is The Haunting of the Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Actually I haven't read it yet, it's in my TBR list, but knowing Shirley Jackson's strong style, I think it will be a read that'll satify you.

Kira (kirabutler) | 2 comments Wild Fell by Michael Rowe was a lot of fun (and still pretty dark.)

Gothic horror FTW.

Darlene | 7 comments I love haunted house stories, too!

I really enjoyed The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. It's more of a subtle eeriness, and very well done.

I bought The Elementals by Michael McDowell and The Good House by Tananarive Due on Audible, but I haven't listened yet.

Darlene | 7 comments I read The Haunted by Bentley Little last year. Not fabulous, but pretty good. I enjoyed it enough to want to read more from him.

It wasn't as creepy as I thought that it would be. I thought that The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters was way more chilling!

I don't think I've ever read Bentley Little!"

Oooooh, so we'll both plan to read The Elementals this year!

Bentley Little was discovered by Dean Koontz, one of my favourite horror writers. I found some more of Bentley's books at a used book sale: The Policy, The Walking, and The Revelation.
