February is Black History Month. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has chosen the 2016 theme to be Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories. This month's challenge is to read books about the locations where important events in African American history occurred.

Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Gateway to Freedom: The Hidden History of the Underground Railroad
My Seneca Village
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
Zephaniah Kingsley Jr. and the Atlantic World: Slave Trader, Plantation Owner, Emancipator
Friends Disappear
Drowned City: Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans
