What are the rules for 'pick-your-own-path' type books? Are they allowed at all? I couldn't find any mention of them in the general rules.

Books like Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography?
They need to be read completely covering all options/outcomes.
If you mean something else, please give us an example.

That was one of the books on my tbr list but there are plenty of other types, like the fighting fantasy series, (eg: [book:Deathtrap Dungeon - not currently showing as children genre actually) although they probably wouldn't show up in AR bookfinder so they'd likely only work for 5.10 anyway.
I used to love those as a teenager and I've seen a pile of them in one of my libraries. I started feeling nostalgic :-)
I can't find the page that shows the dates that these challenges begin and end. Could you post a link here or tell me the name of the file to look in?Thank you!

Am I imagining things, I could have sworn we had a task for spring challenge where you read a book with the genre books about books

There's Winter 2015 Challenge task 20.5
But no posted Spring task with that genre.

I'm guessing this is a stupid question, but if someone gets a book combination okay'd (for example, the fact & fiction task for this season), can I also use that combination even though I wasn't the one who verified it? I'm going to guess that it's just as stupid to read as I feel typing it, but I'd rather be sure.

What do we do if the book level (for children's) changes between when we read and when we post? For example, I'm currently finishing up The Sword of Summer, which HAD a Booklevel of 5.0 when I was reading it, and when I went to copy/paste to start my post, it's dropped down to 4.7?

US/UK AR Bookfinder lists it as: IL: MG(MY) - BL: 4.8 - AR Pts: 18.0

But I have it down in my memos for the book what the BL was when I bought the book and everything. Oh well, I'll just have to choose something else.

(Like back when I started SRC--my friend and I were disappointed thinking of re-reading them at the time.).
Just asking since the 4.7 doesn't match the 4.8 either, so trying to help figure out the discrepancy.
That's weird and also worrying if they do change.

I know the Percy Jackson (and Heroes of Olympus) aren't either, which is why I made a special note of it when I noticed it was a 5.0. Maybe I was looking at a different book at the time? Odddddd.

Hello. I would like to readDavid Bowie: Starman
as the Good Voices part of task 25.4 (book #2)...
I can only find it in e-version format so wanted to confirm this would meet the page requirement of over 100 pages.
Also, I chose Joe Hill as my author for book #1, and would like to read one of his graphic novels, Locke & Key Volume 3 - is that okay under this challenge?
Please advise.
Many thanks
Jenny
Jenny, you'd need to post this in the thread for verifying e-book length. You can find that here. Make sure to read the first post so you know what is needed to verify your book.
In regards to the graphic novels, they are allowed generally only for tasks for 5, 10 or 15 points. For all other tasks they are only allowed if the task creator specifically allows this. As for task 25.4 this is allowed by the task creator, there should be no problem with you reading this..
Perhaps you should have a look into Rules of the Challenge. Most of the questions regarding ebooks and graphic novels are explained in them.

I have a book I want to read for the challenge but I want to verify here before I read/post it. It's got a lot of photographs in it but it also has a fair amount of pages that are just words. I think it falls under "essays/criticism" but I wanted to check. The book is Girl Culture. The description says "...With 100 hypnotic photographs, 20 interviews with the subjects, and an introduction by foremost historian of American girlhood Joan Jacobs Brumberg." Most of the interviews are more than a page long, and each page has two columns of singled space (well maybe more like 1.2 space) text. It's a pretty large book (like 13x10 inches) as well. Yea/nay?

Sorry, no, it appears to be primarily a photography book and not suitable for SRC tasks

I want to verify that any book listed as Childrens but shown as MG+ on ARBookfinder is still acceptable in all cases. True?

unless the task says no childrens books can be used.

Is 2001: A Space Odyssey acceptable for 5.1? As one book between 80-99 pages may be used for one 5 point task. Or, as it's a graphic novel it should have the mininum 100 pages?
If a book is currently only available as an e-ARC but Goodreads does have a record for the upcoming hardcover edition (expected publication July 2016), can this be used in a task requiring page count? Or does the paper version need to already be in print?I would like to use Alliance of Equals in Task 25.2.

Yes, the upcoming hardcover record can be used to establish length

I was wondering. Would it be possible to set the Review and Logo threads for a specific challenge as topics in the discussion group for that challenge, rather than Fun and Games? That way they would be easily findable from both the tasks and readerboard pages.

We keep the season folder limited to 7 topics to keep as many things as possible on the folder's front page.
The current season's contest submission topics are pinned to display at the top of the contest folder.
I send out a reminder with links to the submission threads every season.
