amg Welcome to the fifth part of our re-read of The Witch's Daughter! On this thread, you can discuss the book up to Chapter 2. Please be considerate and don't jump ahead -- we don't want to spoil anything for the first-time readers among us!

To kick off the discussion, here are five questions for you to answer in the comments section below. Anyone who answers these questions will be eligible to win an early copy of The Return of the Witch! Winner will be chosen on Monday, 2/15. Good luck!

Discussion Questions:
1. As we flash back to Elizabeth's present-day life, how do you feel about her past vs. her present?
2. Do you think that Elizabeth's magic is good or evil?
3. What do you think of Eliza's life in 1888?
4. Are you surprised that Eliza is still a healer, even though medicine has changed so much over her lifetime?
5. Do you recognize the name Mary Jane Kelly?

Magiccats Well, I will just answer briefly since no one else has posted and I think the next set of questions goes up today.
1. Elizabeth had quite the life back in the past- doctor, feminist, and lots of social interactions compared to the more lonely yet peaceful existence she has in the present.
2. I think her magic is good. So far I haven't seen any evidence of her doing any harm to others.
3. her life in 1888 was very full and rather stressful. She was an assistant to Dr Gimmel. Also as a doctor she had her own clinic for prostitutes, very revolutionary for her time. She was a bit of a feminist in that respect and she was looking after a private patient. Although she still worries about Gideon finding her. At one point I think it said, he always does.
4. No, I think healing is in her roots and seems to be the type of witch that she is.
5. Mary Jane Kelly, I had to look that up. She was the last victim of Jack the Ripper.

Magiccats, I love the way you are seeing this! Thank you for your answers. It is fascinating for me to hear how readers find my story in this kind of detail. I'm sure there are lots of people following this discussion without posting. They will be comparing their own answers to those that people put up here, and I'm sure many will be agreeing with you.
I look forward to more!
