John Robin (john_robin) | 299 comments So here it is, the new Goodwill Train. For those who want to know about the Goodwill Train, see the old one -- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

Make sure you see how that thread ended -- what started as a great principle quickly derailed into a movement based on using credit to boost pre-orders. That is not what this thread is about.

Here the principle is simple:

We all have affiliate links. We all have credits. We all can use each others' affiliate links to help each other get credits. We all can use out credits to reach out and support new great books (see https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... for that list -- and please add to it any books you think would be great for us to back).

So, put those affiliate links here. No requests, please. No pre-order swapping. Simply put your affiliate link here and those who participate in the Goodwill Train can come and, when they want to order a book, use one of the affiliate links here to order that book.

If you have an affiliate link here and you get credit from someone, make sure to check here to see if that person is on the list -- you can return the favor. Order a great book you want to support and get that person credit back. Or maybe you want to get someone else credit back -- whatever you want to do, when you want to order a book, coming here to use the Goodwill train allows you to pass on credit to someone else so they too can do the same and overall, we can expand our reach to show support for other books.

In particular, those books out in the boondocks where new authors don't even know about this community. Let's use this to help expand our community some more!

P.S. ideally, put your affiliate link for one or more great books you've backed. Remember, your affiliate link is an entry point to Inkshares' system, so once your click on someone's link, even if you click around to find another book, that person will still get credit.

Peter Ryan | 31 comments And mine. Nice one, John.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/sync-...

Rather than link to anyone who has already funded (congratulations to you all) I’m going to go for people who are up and coming. I’m also avoiding Space Operas (though I love the genre and have pre-ordered quite a few) as the Nerdist: Space Opera Competition is generating a good buzz for those folks.

Steve Visel Troll Hunter https://www.inkshares.com/books/troll... This book is going to get me back into fantasy - wonderfully written with great character development. This one needs to get funded.

Tabi Card Scribbles: A Collection of Words https://www.inkshares.com/books/scrib... One day all short stories will be as interesting as this. Get in there and order this one.

Michael Sebby The Inhabitants: An Unremembered Life https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-i... And because I always return to sci-fi; this one rocks. Go check it out – you’re dreaming if you don’t pre-order this .

And I’m going to give a non-link shout out to two more established (read funded) authors. Both of these guys have given me good advice connected to the whole Inkshares process. First, Joseph Asphahani author of The Animal in Man – science fiction meets fantasy, how can you go wrong with that combination? Second, Billy O’Keefe author of These are My Friends on Politics – funny, funny stuff. Search these two out, it’ll be worth it.

Michael Sebby | 37 comments First, the obvious:

The Inhabitants: An Unremembered Life
I'm in love with the unknown, so the idea of exploring dreams (and other supernatural concepts) was an easy one for me.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-i...

My recommendations:

Deus Hex Machina
I enjoy so much about this book. I love the atmosphere, I love the cyberpunk style, I love the characters, I love the conceptual art and the game that Amanda created for it (play it if you haven't!). Seriously.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/deus-...

Disintegration
Steve's view of the future is bleak, but I absolutely enjoy inhabiting it. He knows how to set up exciting action sequences, and we feel fairly invested in these characters' survival.

I'm checking with John to update his post, but here are some additional details. We don't know for sure, but it is probably a safe assumption that the one credit per book rule will be implemented on the site. Because of this, I recommend that you not only link your referral to your book, but also to as many other books you think are interesting along with the title and if desired a description of why you like it. The more links you supply and the better of a job you do to persuade people to pre-order, the better your odds of getting credits. I'll throw down an example.

Lost Generation
Buy it. You won't regret it.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/lost-...

Deus Hex Machina
Love the name. Love the concept. Orange county. Magic? Cyberpunk? Techno-religions!? I need my eyes on these words!!
https://www.inkshares.com/books/deus-...

The Life Interstellar
I'm just starting to become aware of this book and a lot of that has to do with Zack's stellar promotional posts. They interesting and on point. I'm inspired by the content surrounding his book and I want to know more!
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-l...

Feel free to go back and edit your posts if you already have one. This format will help spread the word on authors as well as get you credits.

I hope this clears things up.

message 6: by John (new)

John Robin (john_robin) | 299 comments @Joe, I think this is a good idea, though just so everyone is aware, the referral link saves the referral code when you follow it to Inkshares. For example, today I backed a few new books using referral links here but just used each one as an entry point. For example, I followed Yicheng's link then once on the site clicked to the Nerdist contest to find a book I wanted to back. Yicheng still get's credit for that since the link is tracked as the entry point to Inkshares' system.

I like the idea though of adding some recommended links because it helps with the other related thread here listing good books to back.

message 7: by John (new)

John Robin (john_robin) | 299 comments @billy, @peter, @ricky, @michael, @yicheng -- think you can also follow Joe's suggestion and edit your posts above to include one or more affiliate links to books you've backed? This way people who come here can pick one of our links AND discover a new book to support.

(This is easy, by the way -- I just did that by going over my Twitter feed and finding links from books I backed then copying and pasting here.)

I'm in a pay-it-forward mood, so I'm just going to post a few recommendations:

Lies and Deception by André Brun
This one's a mysterious sci-fi with a strong DaVinci Code vibe. If it funds (and it's close) I can see it becoming really successful.
(link removed because it's been used!)

Deus Hex Machina by Amanda Orneck
An awesomely futuristic concept with evidence of amazing world building. This one also looks like a future hit to me.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/deus-...

Blood Dawn by John Robin
A beautifully told fantasy epic full of interesting and enticing ideas. This is one of the very first books I discovered on the site and still sits on my favorites list.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/blood...

edited to add:

Witches Undercover by Rochelle Germano
A witty urban fantasy about two sisters that happen to be witches.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/witch...

The Vampire and the Dragon by Michael Welch
The story starts with a snarky, antisocial vampire opening his door to find two government agents. Things only get crazier from there!

R.H. Webster (rh_webster) | 39 comments Here are a few I think might be liked:

Lucky by RH Webster
https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky...
A space opera with the spirit of the Wild West, this novel follows the story of Cassandra Luckenbach and Trigg Donner as they travel from one extraterrestrial colony to another. There is mystery, a bar brawl, romance, spaceships, and even a high-speed car chase.

These Are My Friends On Politics by Billy O'Keefe
https://www.inkshares.com/books/these...
I just love the title of this one. I've pre-ordered my copy and can't wait to sink my teeth into more political humor.

Soulblade: Book 1 by Kirsty Jennings
https://www.inkshares.com/books/soulb...
Elven princesses? Yes, please! I always want a good book with a strong female lead and gorgeous cover art. In this novel, "...an elven princess must stop a God’s destructive path to dominance as she struggles to control her powers in order to save her friends and family."

The Life Interstellar by Zack Jordan
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-l...
I love Zack's updates for this novel. Every time I receive an update email, it comes in the form of an AI computer start up code, or some sort of manual. As a computer coder myself (IRL, that is), this amuses me to no end. Also in the space opera genre (my favorite, if you couldn't tell).

Here are a couple quick codes/referrals. Being in the great white north of Canadia, and not having a ton of money to burn right now with the awfulterrible US/CDN exchange rate, I'm being selective in my purchases, so these are what struck my eye the most recently.

The Life Interstellar
An interesting take on a lone human in a truly alien world. Plus, hunting for God.

The Traveler's Cup
Space race! And space dragons! Who are you to resist?

Man, I'm gonna feel awful stupid about not relaunching my own book (Rockets) during this contest and goodwill parade. Sticking to your 'not-till-it's-ready' guns is haaaaaaard. (Feel free to follow my project if you like.)

First off we've got Dax Harrison by Tony Valdez

The Remains of Civilization By Yicheng Liu

Jason (atomicboywonder) | 44 comments Here's mine first:

https://www.inkshares.com/books/to-li...

And here's all the ones I think need more love:

Lucky by RH Webster
https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky...

Prophecy of the Stars by Melissa Berg
https://www.inkshares.com/books/proph...

Dax Harrison by Tony Valdez
https://www.inkshares.com/books/dax-h...

Beyond the Code by Kelsey Rae Barthel
https://www.inkshares.com/books/beyon...

Also I love you all and not in a I'm-begging-you-to-love-my-book kind of way. Not entirely. Maybe a little.

But, in all seriousness, I've been supporting as many authors as I can. I love being in the Nerdist contest, but realistically I just want to see my book get published and root for those currently in the lead. I think the top spots are being held by some great stuff.

More stuff that needs love:

Children of the Forest by Byron Gillan (only 5 days left, go go go)
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-c...

These are My Friends on Politics by Billy O'Keefe
I honestly can't wait for this, reminds me of every conversation I ever had with the political science majors I worked with at the bookstore.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/these...

Troll Hunter by Steve Visel
https://www.inkshares.com/books/troll...

Sadie McGrady, Leading Lady by Mary Parry
I just learned about this one and that its on the old campaign system and only needs 20 more copies to reach the 1000 mark.

message 23: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Gerard Berg Hey everyone, finally made it over here. I went through my list of books I've already picked up, but also looked for all the books I still want. I'm out of credits, so here is my list, and why I picked them:

Books I already preordered and recommend:

Infinity Mind
https://www.inkshares.com/books/infin...

Sounds like a really exciting premise, a man programmed with brain washing to be used as a government assassin. I really want to see where this one goes!

Champions of the Third Planet
https://www.inkshares.com/books/champ...

Okay, two things here, first I grabbed this one even before I really read all about it. Not my usual way of shopping for a book, but I love the idea and the fact it's for kids the same age as my son, so I want to read it and he wants to read it too. But then I read his page, and I was even more excited and thankful that I got it, mostly because of WHY he wrote it. I played games and imagined stories like that too when I was a kid, and it is a lot harder to get kids out there imagining their world instead of running through it in a video game. So... Yeah, that's why I'm adding this to my list.

Artum: Immortal Legacy:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/life-...

This one mentioned space pirates! And the cover is gorgeous... Sorry, I know, don't judge a book by its cover, but I'm an artist, it's what I do... Lol

Books I want, but HELP I'm out of credits!

Lucky:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky...

Gotta support my fellow 'sisters of the keyboard', especially those who write fantasy or sci-fi. This one sounds like a great adventure... And again, the cover art is gorgeous.

They are the Last
https://www.inkshares.com/books/they-...

Though I love and write fantasy, I like anything that takes us to new worlds, this sounds right up my alley. She must use her power, which is her Light, this feels like she will move into areas of the fantastical too. I love stories that use a little of both genres to weave together something new.

The Talkers are Talking:

https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-t...

And finally... How did I not have this one yet?? A fellow Nerdist Contest author (the first one), her book was always right next to mine for a good portion of the contest. I didn't order it then, only because of that, but afterwards I really wanted it, and at some point it never ended up on my bookshelf. She wrote a great and really eloquent review for mine, and I really want to return the favor before I disappear.

Oh, and in case you feel generous here is mine:

I've occasionally had that problem, Peter — for whatever reason, emails from Inkshares just get stuck for a few hours or longer sometimes and I'm not sure why. Then they all arrive at once, which is kind of amusing.

But I can confirm both orders went through as I got emails about my referral working on both. Whenever the email gets unstuck you should get order confirmations (along with some credits and a few Sync City order emails too -- added on to my order!)

Though I'm not 100% sure the author isn't a bunch of cats and monkeys taped together trying to pass as human, his first two books in this series are delightful fantasy romps that don't take themselves so seriously, and yet can still make an impact when they want to.

Lost Generation
One of the books that came out of the very first S&L contest, and by one of the busy mods of this little community, Joe more than deserves a few more copies to get out there.

Ghosts of War
Paul hustled his ass off in campaigning this one not once, but twice, and in two contests no less, so if nothing else it's earned on elbow grease alone. Luckily it sounds like a solid blend of space opera and action, and that cover!

Abomination
The one that started this whole Inkshares ball rolling for me, Whitta's medieval-era horror is a dark, touching take on a pulpy creature feature. Highly recommended.

Kirsty Jennings (kirstyj78) | 33 comments Here's my link:

And some others that I have recently backed:

Abomination
This was my first order when I joined Inkshares. I love reading historical fiction and is definitely recommended.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/abomi...

Lucky
A space opera with a great storyline and characters to match. a definite read.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky...

Blood Dawn
This is an epic fantasy in its own right. Over 700 pages of full fantasy galore and a deep world that was built to immerse yourself in, this book is certainly a read.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/blood...

The Catcher's Trap
A dark fantasy that pulls you in and doesn't let go. You will be hooked from the first paragraph.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-c...

Rune Of The Apprentice
Another epic fantasy book with an immense storyline, rich details and opens up strongly to a vast world that you can lose yourself in. Don't hesitate to read this book!

Amanda Orneck (amandaorneck) No more credits here, but if I get more I will definitely help out here. Anyway, recommendations are:

Feyside
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this book, and it's only got 18 orders until it funds! Faeries AND Steampunk...somebody's been reading my diary!
https://www.inkshares.com/books/feysi...

The Inhabitants: An Unremembered Life
Eternal Sunshine meets Inception in Twin Peaks! Yes, it's all that AND a bag of chips!
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-i...

Sync City
Another cyberpunk novel, and you know I love those! I don't like Jack Trevvayne though I suppose I'm not supposed to. :P
https://www.inkshares.com/books/sync-...

Lastly this one needs a ton of orders, and I'm not sure why it doesn't have more because it's awesome:

Dragonfriend
Sold to a sorceress, unteachable in the way's of magic, friendship with a dragon saves his life but makes God angry. Yep, I'm so there.

Patrick Jamison (patrick_jamison) | 17 comments I just found The Amaranth Chronicles: Deviant Rising and love it -- so I recommend it:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-a...
(But it's got 14 days left and a LOT of pre-orders to go -- so I'm hoping people show it some love.)

I'm also really into Disintegration -- and this one has met its Quill goal, so you know it's being published:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/disin...

Of course, what kind of husband would I be if I didn't pimp out Blood Dawn, by John Robin, which has also met its Quill goal:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/blood...

And, like most other people, I'll throw my own on the list here. (And I saw Melissa recommended it on the previous page -- thank you!!) Here's Infinity Mind:

Christopher Leone | 20 comments Hello folks!

My book is Champions of the Third Planet and you can find it here:
https://www.inkshares.com/books/champ...

Also going to throw out links to a few of my fellow Nerdist competitors' books that caught my eye:

Lucky by RH Webster: https://www.inkshares.com/books/lucky...

The Life Interstellar by Zack Jordan.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-l...

The trailer is dope, right?

The Traveller's Cup by AC Baldwin. https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-t...

The Verge Wars by Kristopher J. Patten.
https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-v...

This an obscure one but it got me because the opening paragraph is how the rooms with windows in a spaceship that were originally highly desirable are now a pain in the ass to everybody. I thought that was a great idea that in a single paragraph tells you a LOT about the world we're entering. Also his bio is funny. It doesn't look like Kristopher is active on the site which is a shame, but check it out.

I also want to salute a few of the folks who not only have cool books but kindly went out of their way to welcome me to Inkshares when I joined it 3 long weeks ago:

The Bones of the Past by Craig Munro. https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-b...

The Animal in Man by Joseph Asphahani: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-a...

Prophecy of The Stars by Melissa Berg: https://www.inkshares.com/books/proph...

The Catcher's Trap by Ricardo Henriquez: https://www.inkshares.com/books/the-c...

...and if I'm forgetting anyone who helped me out I apologize profusely!
