Raven carefully looked down the alley, shooting a glance at Silver as she continued with cautious steps down it. They'd done it. They'd snuck away.
Lord, the Rebellion leaders would be so angry with her.
She shook that thought away, sticking to the wall as she walked.
Lord, the Rebellion leaders would be so angry with her.
She shook that thought away, sticking to the wall as she walked.
"Sort of. Not really. I haven't come here since…" Raven trailed off, unwilling to speak about her past. "Well. Bad stuff happened." She ducked into a doorway, taking a quick look outside onto a narrow, darkened street. "It's like a maze in here. How are we going to get out?" She looked up, a thought forming in her head, and began studying the rooftops.
"Depends whether or not you want to be Hansel and Gretel." Silver said, not pressing the 'past' subject.
"I have a better idea," Raven told her. "The rooftops- we could see everything. We'd know where to go."
"That's still Hansel and Gretel. Well sort of." Silver continued to follow her fighting back tears. All of those terrible times.
"Come on." Raven offered Silver her hand with a faint, reassuring smile. "We're going up. It'll also be a good place to hide."
Raven frowned but didn't ask what was going on. "Let's go," she said, using magic so that a gust of wind pushed both Silver and Raven up to the roof.
"Look," Raven whispered, not really hearing Silver's question. She had scampered to the edge of the roof to look at the city.
"I… I used to live over there," Raven said softly, pointing to a part of the city.
Silver stuck her tongue at it and then the castle. "That made me feel better." Silver looked at the huge city. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"
"I used to have a friend," Raven continued, quiet. "His name… Well, I think he's dead now, so that doesn't matter."
Silver put a hand on Raven's back. "Well, you got me now. So.. what does he look like so if I see him."
"He had brown eyes," Raven murmured. "And hair that always stuck up and couldn't be combed down, no matter how hard he tried. And... he was my best friend. He'd always make me laugh."
"He's dead. Don't worry about it..." Raven hung her head, staring at the roofs of the city, biting her lip as she thought.
"His name was Asher." Raven was silent for a few seconds. "Asher o'Brein."
"Asher....Asher. Nice Name." Silver put her head in her hands. Past.. The past. Why is the past the always horrible to keep?
"Did you have any friends?" Raven asked faintly. She didn't want to talk about herself anymore.
"Yeah. I did. In fact I had a Boy friend. Then the Queen decided to be "Off with their heads!" So yeah, no any more." silver sighed. "Curse the Queen." She muttered.
"I've never had a boyfriend," Raven said with a frown. "What's it like?"
"It was wonderful. He actually care about me. I helped to pay his debt. It cost almost all of of my money. But the Queen wasn't happy." Silver sighed. "Once again, Curse the Queen." Silver turned to Raven. "Could you do me a favor?"
"Anything. Anything, sure." Raven turned to face Silver.
"Where the Queen is over thrown, I want to be there to say "Off with her head!"" Silver said smiling.
"Deal," Raven agreed. "But I get to be the one who chops it off her neck."
"Um… No one." Raven sighed. "How are we supposed to get in?"
"Oh. Um… Well. A lot. I know the leaders," Raven replied.
"The palace, of course," Raven told her, turning her gaze to the roof of the queen's castle. "Wait a moment…"
"We could sneak in by using the rooftops," Raven suggested slyly. "Avoiding detection. We'd be just like spies," she whispered, a sudden pang of sadness hitting her. It had always been Asher's favorite 'imagining' game, playing spies. Stars, I miss him, Raven thought to herself.
"Whatever you say boss." Silver said slyly. Silver smiled. She ticked me off and now I am going to go in and do something that will hopefully tick her off!
"Well, come on then," Raven said, standing and taking a few steps away from the edge of the roof. Then she took a running leap and landed hard on the roof next to it, about three feet away. "No magic, we're in the queen's realm now! Don't want her detecting us!"
Raven jumped to the next roof, looking back at Silver and then continuing to the next one.
Raven leaped to the next roof and surveyed the surrounding. "Look," she said, pointing to the palace.
"Oh, don't worry. We'll be at the palace in no time," Raven said, mustering a cheerful smile.
Raven paused, leaning against a steeple to catch her breath. She didn't want to get close to the Queen but she couldn't really help it.
"Hey, you okay? You look kinda sick," Raven said, turning her attention on Silver.
