Share your first impressions of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal here.

Kandice | 944 comments I have to say that the opening scene of Lamb is one of my favorite opening scenes of any book ever. "Which part?" Seriously funny and puts into perspective, for those of us that are religious, how it can seem to outside observers.

This might be cheating . . . but my status from today after lunch is a good description of my first impression:

"Pretty funny so far . . . glad I read the bible and go to church . . . it will help with the references and make them even more amusing!"

Kandice - there were several enjoyable parts - what are you referring to from the opening scene?

HA! Yeah - that was pretty funny!

Josen (josens) | 696 comments This book has got me crack-ing up! The fact that the angel, Raziel, was late because he stopped to talk to Michael and he had a deck of cards. Lol!!

"Kid, were you born in a stable?"

There are so, so many places where I really did laugh. We throw around the "LOL" all the time, but I really did. On the other hand, there are parts I disliked, but the funny ones made up for those.

I mentioned this in my post above, but I can already see having some biblical knowledge is helping me catch some subtle references that a reader who has not read or studied the bible would not catch.

Kandice | 944 comments Absolutely! I see that as kind of like a movie made after a television series, like The X-files or Serenity. You don't have to be familiar with background to enjoy it, but it certainly makes the experience more rich.

Meghan | 118 comments This sounds so funny. My friend is lending me this book. I'm eager to get it from her and start reading!

message 13: by Josen (new)

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Well unfortunately I'm going to be delayed in finishing this book. I had to return it to the library and couldn't recheck it out because someone else placed it on hold. :( I'm going on vacation and was hoping to finish it then. Guess I'll have to wait until I get back.

Bummer - I understand that, though - this is not a quick book to read!

Josen (josens) | 696 comments Oh good I thought it was just me. Lol! I felt like it was talking me a while getting through it. I don't know why.

Meghan | 118 comments This is pretty funny. I know I'm probably missing many references as I read, but I still really like it so far.

Richard (rsquaredreads) | 178 comments I'm about 40 pages in. I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting a little more intelligent wit and right now I feel like I'm getting crass humor. I'm by no means offended. I can appreciate satire, but I feel like it's falling short of that right now.

Richard - I can see that - more potty humor than witty humor, for sure!
