Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 329 comments I'm reading Ammonite and enjoying it. It's quite intriguing/exciting by p.130 where I am. An anthropologist's adventures as she goes tribal.

My introduction says it's "thoroughly versed in the SF predecessors" and is a response to Joanna Russ in particular, with her story 'When It Changed'. That's certainly what I thought of at once -- it feels like a homage or revisit of that era, to me. Except perhaps that there simply aren't any men in the story, due to the plot. It's not an issue, they're just absent, so that every part is taken by a woman. At the moment we're in a culture group inspired by horse nomads, which is fun.

I just started reading this. I will be interested to see how this shapes up as it goes along. I am enjoying it so far but I am only still at the beginning.

I finished this. I liked it but did not love it. I enjoyed the world building as well as the dichotomy of ancient ways vs. modern ways and how both could help people survive in what seemed like a pretty hostile environment. I wished there had been more exploration of the human relationships by the author, instead of what I felt was just a very basic idea of how the tribal world operated. At least some aspects of human relations were explored with Marghe, the main character, and Thenike. Not the best book I have ever read, but I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

chisholm (caligulas) | 5 comments though i liked ammonite i just wished for more. l long for the J. R. R. Tolkien of lesbians.

chisholm (caligulas) | 5 comments I long for the day lesbian fiction not be considered the b movie of fiction books. and it be known that lesbian fiction isn't all erotica and that they are a voice an inspirational lesbian fiction voice to be heard that could be able to translate over to main stream.

May I suggest my own trilogy, When Women Were Warriors. I was a HUGE LOTR fan, and I fully intended my book to be the next LOTR. But with women. And lesbians.

Book I is permanently FREE on Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, and the iBookstore.
