I read this just before the longlist was announced and it doesn't surprise me at all that it is on here - this is a beautiful story which is perfectly written. The author doesn't waste a single word and the translation is excellent. This book is already one of my favourites for the year!
Agree with Jesika. I thought this was excellent. It was so nice to actually read such a simple book. Nothing fancy or shouty or indulgent, just really great writing and a universal story. It didn't blow me away but there were some really poignant moments in it. Life moments. Oddly it reminded me of Any Human Heart by William Boyd - a very different and much more extravagant book but still a book about the smaller things in life that matter.(view spoiler)
