Valerie | 280 comments Tangled Vines: Greed, Murder, Obsession, and an Arsonist in the Vineyards of California is a very good historical account of wine making in early LA area of California. It also tells the story of the fire at Wines Central Warehouse, and the investigation to find the perpetrator, and bring him to trial. By doing so, you learn not only about Mark Anderson's crime and the industry's problem with counterfeiting, but also the history of the author's family and the production of a wine that was lost during that fire.

In essence, there are three stories woven in the book. Two of them are very interesting, and the third is OK. As a oenophile, I really enjoyed learning more about the history of the wine industry in that part of California, and the Mark Anderson crime...but, the author's personal history would have been better had it been told more like a novel than like a newspaper article. (The author is a news writer, so the style is not unsurprising.)

Overall, I would recommend this book for wine enthusiasts. It was well written, and had a lot of good historical information.
