The evil night things that prowl Cincinnati despise witch and bounty hunter Rachel Morgan. Her new reputation for the dark arts is turning human and undead heads alike with the intent to possess, bed, and kill her -- not necessarily in that order.

Now a mortal lover who abandoned Rachel has returned, haunted by his secret past. And there are those who covet what Nick possesses -- savage beasts willing to destroy the Hollows and everyone in it if necessary.

Forced to keep a low profile or eternally suffer the wrath of a vengeful demon, Rachel must nevertheless act quickly. For the pack is gathering for the first time in millennia to ravage and to rule. And suddenly more than Rachel's soul is at stake.

This buddy read is scheduled for June. So far, Lauren, Kris, Mary Beth and I have agreed to participate.

lorii (Loriidae) #1 is on my TBR, so I will see if I can get up to speed by June.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
Great! We'll still be there if you don't and will continue the discussion.

FYI, the first book didn't impress me but I've enjoyed all since.

I second, Jonetta. It gets better after book one.

Thanks for that, I pretty much tend to discard a series / author if they don't impress straight away, especially if I am reading it outside of GR group read etc. That is good to know. :)

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 656 comments Even though I grew up in Cincinnati, I'll have to pass on this series. I'm really not into PN subjects. I'll keep up with you all in other reads, though....

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
Series gets better with each book.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
Are we still on to read this book this month?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
Absolutely!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
I have it on my plan and just wanted to confirm.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I can't manage a reread of this at this time but just wanted to chime in that this is my all-time favorite UF series. I was just thinking the other day how much I miss getting a new book every year. I miss Rachel and the gang.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
It took me a bit to warm up but I'm now enjoying.

message 14: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I was sold once I got to book three. That said though, this particular book was my least favorite in the whole 13 book series (for character reasons, not plot).

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 2447 comments Yikes I forgot, but I'm in!

Mary Beth | 974 comments Im in! When are you all starting this?

Mary Beth | 974 comments Just started this!

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 2447 comments I will probably start next week...I have two more audio books to read.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
I need to finish my current audio and will start then. Probably at the beginning of the week.

Mary Beth | 974 comments Sounds good! I am listening to this while reading other books so it will take me awhile to finish. The audiobook is 17 hrs.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
I've got the Harry Bosch book next, then this one.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
I started A Fistful of Charms and it certainly gets exciting right out of the gate!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
Lauren, would you be willing to do the discussion questions?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
Jonetta wrote: "Lauren, would you be willing to do the discussion questions?"

Sure, but it will take me some time as I'm listening.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
I'm listening, too. I can do but you seem to create better questions for a UF series. Definitely feel free to say no.

I'm happy to do it. In fact, I've already written some :0)

Yay!!

I'm not done (at the 62% mark) yet but is anyone else as annoyed and irritated by Rachel and Nick and Rachel and Ivy as I am?!

Also - (view spoiler)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
I'm not that far along but am really disappointed that Nick is in the picture again.

message 31: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I recall being quite done with the Rachel/Ivy drama by this point.

Me too! I was sure we'd seen the back of him!

Lol!

I was done with it in book #1 - Rachel never learns.
As much as Rachel wants to accept her and be her friend, Ivy is not stable and she wants a completely different type of relationship.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
That's a "duh" to all of us but not Rachel.

It's a very unhealthy dynamic IMO. It bothers me that Rachel has to walk around on eggshells so often so as not to set off Ivy, and then blames herself when she does.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
Veronica wrote: "nd then blames herself when she does. "

Yes. This is very tiresome. She does not owe Ivy anything and should stop feeling responsible for keeping her from going over to the dark side.

Mary Beth | 974 comments I dont like the Rachel/Ivy relationship either. Haha! I fell asleep listening to it last night. So now I have to find out where I left off. I know that I am at least 6 hrs. into it.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
Mary wrote: "Haha! I fell asleep listening to it last night."

I'm not surprised. This one is slow going with lots of unnecessary description of every move that every character makes. Its a good thing I have my two hour commute. Its getting me through it.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I'll say it again, my least favorite of the series. ;-)

Definitely.

Mary Beth | 974 comments Its been really hard for me to listen to it. Especially since I was reading Fear Nothing (Detective D.D. Warren, #7) by Lisa Gardner and now reading Breaking Silence (Kate Burkholder, #3) by Linda Castillo both of these books are so hard to put down.

message 45: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments I'm actually listening to Ever After (The Hollows, #11) by Kim Harrison right now on audio, book 11. It's one of my favorites of the series and a rare five star book for me. It's funny to see how far the characters have come from the early books. It's quite a journey and it highlights why I prefer series to stand alone books. A series allows for a more in depth, immersive experience IMO.

Mary Beth | 974 comments I love series more than stand alones also. Well I was going to forget about this series but now I'm not. Cant wait to get through this audiobook. Thanks Veronica for the heads up!

Definitely tough to pull away from those two.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12979 comments Mod
I love series, too. When I get hooked on a character, I don't want to let go and it takes me a bit:)

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 2447 comments I can't wait to read...I'm just listening to One Shot by Lee Child and the I will start.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 5507 comments Mod
I'm done. Definitely the weakest in the series so far.

I will post some discussion questions in the 2-3-4 Discussion group after I come back from walking my dog in the excruciating heat. Hopefully, he will realize just how hot it is and come back back quickly!
