Are you reading anything great?

I just started Throne of Glass last night. I haven't decided if I count it as great. Any thoughts?

I'm read "the invention of murder" by Judith flanders- Sooooo great! I never realized how many "classic" book plots could be traced back to real murders! ms. Flanders outlines the crime (with all gory details) and then takes us though the media response, first newspapers then "ripped from the head lines" plays, and finally the lasting mark each murder left on the literature of the time. there's something comforting about knowing your great great great grandma would enjoy law and order reruns as much as you do.

Hahaha yes that does sound comforting. It reminds me of Murder by Candlelight: The Gruesome Slayings Behind Our Romance with the Macabre, which I haven't personally read, but saw the other month and had a 'huh' moment from the summary.

There is an excellent book by Lucy Worsley, A Very British Murder, that is a recompilation of different real murders, crime author biographies, and how crime as a genre has affected the police force. It is basically an explanation on how crime was turned into art. If you are interested in how past real murders influenced crime, that is the book for you.

I am currently reading White Teeth by Zadie Smith. It is an amazing book! Smith writes incredibly well and gives every character a very distinctive voice. It is quite an incredible read. Besides that, she is the kind of author who could be writing about buying toilet paper and make it the most interesting thing. I'm told that she wrote this book while she was 21 and doing her finals at university, which is so impressive. When I had finals, I had time to sleep and little else.
