Jackie | 82 comments As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am about to take off for my honeymoon to the other side of the world! From New Zealand I will not have regular internet as I will be exploring the country, BUT I wanted to make sure to set you all up for the May theme. That meant that I had to close the poll a little early. Our May theme is books set in the 19th century (1800s).

19th Century Books
Best Victorian Fiction Set in Britain
Excellent Books Set in the 19th Century

Remember that once you've finished your book(s) for the month, you're always welcome to start a discussion topic in the month's folder (which works best if there are others in the group who have read or are currently reading the book in question) or post your thoughts (or just drop a link to your review!) in the thread below.

And don't forget to vote on the poll for June's theme. The poll for July's theme is all set up and will open on May 1!

Tim Smith I just joined the group this morning and noticed that the book I started reading last evening meets the theme. I am reading The Old Curiosity Shop The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens

Amena Oh, the Complete Sherlock Holmes fits the theme... must say I'm cheating a bit, since I started reading it a bit earlier. Then again, it's quite a large volume, and some bits are set in the early 20th century, so maybe I can get away with it - ?

Tim Smith I finished The Old Curiosity Shop last night which gave a glimpse of life in Britain in the 19th century. The way that Charles Dickens wrote made me not want to set it down.

I am now starting Journey to the Centre of the Earth which was also written in the 19th century.

Anne | 68 comments I'm reading 'Path to the Silent Country - Charlotte Bronte's Years of Fame' by Lynne Reid Banks. Based on Charlotte Bronte's life after the publication of Jane Eyre, it is written as a novel. Seems good so far. Path To The Silent Country by Lynne Reid Banks

Sara | 57 comments I am reading Bel-Ami & Sea of Poppies for this month's theme as both books have been on my to-read list for a long time!

Shomeret | 69 comments I'm reading Thoreau at Devil's Perch which is a mystery. 19th century author Henry David Thoreau is a character, but not a protagonist. There are two murders--an African American free man and a military captain. A Native American is accused of having killed the captain. The protagonists, who are friends of Thoreau, believe that he is innocent and want to solve the murders. Thoreau assists them occasionally.
