I just joined the group this morning and noticed that the book I started reading last evening meets the theme. I am reading The Old Curiosity Shop
Oh, the Complete Sherlock Holmes fits the theme... must say I'm cheating a bit, since I started reading it a bit earlier. Then again, it's quite a large volume, and some bits are set in the early 20th century, so maybe I can get away with it - ?
I finished The Old Curiosity Shop last night which gave a glimpse of life in Britain in the 19th century. The way that Charles Dickens wrote made me not want to set it down.I am now starting Journey to the Centre of the Earth which was also written in the 19th century.
I just finished reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth. You can read my review at http://tims-reviews.blogspot.com/2016....I am about to start The Time Machine which was written at the end of the 19th century.
I'm reading 'Path to the Silent Country - Charlotte Bronte's Years of Fame' by Lynne Reid Banks. Based on Charlotte Bronte's life after the publication of Jane Eyre, it is written as a novel. Seems good so far.
I am reading Bel-Ami & Sea of Poppies for this month's theme as both books have been on my to-read list for a long time!
I'm reading Thoreau at Devil's Perch which is a mystery. 19th century author Henry David Thoreau is a character, but not a protagonist. There are two murders--an African American free man and a military captain. A Native American is accused of having killed the captain. The protagonists, who are friends of Thoreau, believe that he is innocent and want to solve the murders. Thoreau assists them occasionally.
