I absolutely loved the book. My least favorite part was probably the very very beginning when we get thrown a bunch of names. My absolutely favorite part was when she found out about her father and her reaction. It was a reaction I would've had as well. Amani is definitely my favorite character and I don't think I have a least favorite one.
I freaking love it!The arabic feeling was real! I do hope in the next book there will be a map of the world.
The name of the character was not so Arabic. Except for the Prince.
I loved the book, it was so much better than I thought. My favorite parts were the fighting parts and my least favorite was the mythical names thrown in, I felt like I couldn't keep up with the creatures. My favorite character... Well it's hard to choose! Amani and shazad are complete badasses and I love Jin as well. I couldn't stand Amani's family though- her aunt, uncle and her cousin Shira (I think that was her name)
I have mixed feelings. I loved the storyline and all the religious magical details which was right up my alley but I didn't love the way the writer would sometimes describe a scene, sometimes the write would use all these really fancy words and describe it way more then it needed so I couldn't really get a good picture in my head because it was way to much and way to overwhelming. My favourite part was when she first got to the camp and you got to get into all the magical side, it would make such a good movie I think!
least favourite part was when the priest died
Continued - my favourite character was Jin, but he was also your kind of typical mystical, mysterious male lead.Least favourite character was Amani's cousin for selling her out, so much evil.
I wish the book was longer, i think there was so much more that could have been added, the end felt very rushed and the whole fight scene was over really quickly. But i cant wait for the sequal, hopefully its abit longer. This book is great for people who dont loke reading huge novels
I love the characters of this book, especially Jin. I really thought he was hot and suave but still let Amani be powerful, which is refreshing in YA. He knew she wasn't the Damsel in Distress, and I even enjoyed that she ditched him at one point. It was definitely romantic. "You have traitor eyes, Bandit."
I didn't see the whole Djinni thing coming, but I actually really liked it. I should have guessed she'd be able to control sand, but I was actually a bit surprised, and it was SOOOO cool.
Interested to see what happens with her brother.
It was fun to blend Wild Wild West with Arabic mythology and other magic systems. It made the setting unique. I loved how fearless Amani was. I even like that she ditched her friend to leave town b/c it's realistic and upped the stakes. BTW, did we ever find out if he lived?
Oh least favorite part may actually be the beginning, but only b/c it read very western and not what I expected. It's not bad, just different. The tone changes later on.
I really enjoyed the book but like what most of what I've read here I didn't enjoy the start because it was much like a western book and it wasn't until the second or third chapter that I felt myself getting into the story and by the end I was in love with it.My favourite parts would be the small romantic moments between her and Jin, when she discovered what she was and when her power manifested.
I hated her cousin Shazira for what she did on the train because she was jealous of Fazim wanting her but I don't think that's the last we'll hear of her. I'm not sure about Noorsham. Having him as an enemy definitely added surprise and drama to the story but I hope it he'll end up joining them.
I love Amani, Jin and Shazad but all the Demdji are awesome. Amani is strong and willing to make hard choices but she still has loyalty and follows her heart as well as her head.
I wrote a review with more thoughts as well https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I enjoyed this booked. I felt a little distracted after the desert walk simply because of the time jump. I felt like she could have filled that section with so much more character connecting between Amani and Jin. But instead we are left to go on, things happened and we grew close.
Favourite character -no one really stuck out for me at first, Jin was cool but a bit cliche. I liked that Amani saved her own skin at first. I liked the truth of it. To be honest Ahmed was probably my favourite and the most dynamic, a leader and a brother. Worried for his people but also willing to take risks and do what it takes to win.
I finished this today. I enjoyed all of it really. It was a good read and left me wanting more. I'm not sure if I connected to any of the characters but it was an enjoyable read all in all.
I finished this a few days ago. I didn't like the beginning at all. It was slow and some of it didn't make sense to me. It picked up slowly. I lived Jin instantly but even though he's the main character he felt a bit distant to me. I love the witty comments Amani had ready for me. I think she is my all time favourite YA female lead character. Her personality was fierce and strong with none of the normal "I wonder if he will like me" crap. I really loved her.
I think some of the other characters were also interesting. I especially liked Bahi for some reason. I imagine he could be wildly entertaining. overall, the plot was good and there was some unpredictable twists at the end. I loved the ending even though some may feel it was a bit rushed. I think this will be explained better in the next book. I think the ending was the highlight for me!!
