Elizabeth (Alaska) The link to the author file in the Quick Links post has been updated. The file now includes birth/death dates. (And we all wonder why it didn't have them before now.)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Group Goal polls are up. Go vote!

Elizabeth (Alaska) In case anyone was wondering, we're running a day or so behind on getting the last tasks up. Kate has had computer problems, but we're almost back on track. You know the polls, others will be up as soon as we can get them to you.

Those of you who expect to be task creators and/or group reads designates, please have your thinking caps on with a couple of tasks in mind when Kate contacts you.

Thank you!

message 7: by Kate S (new)

Kate S | 6459 comments We have decided to try out a new team challenge in RwS. For the month of July we will be offering a bonus BINGO challenge for all members of RwS. No prior participation required!

How it works:

Between June 15th and 26th members will be allowed (encouraged) to sign up in the appropriate thread to be assigned a team.

The moderators will assign members to a team and announce the team make up on June 28th.

Every team will be working with the same BINGO card. The final and official BINGO card will be available for viewing on June 28th. In the meantime, you can see what might be in store here .

A team will earn a BINGO by completing the tasks in the squares to complete a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line on the card.

Each member of the team must contribute at least one book to the completion of a BINGO.

Each book read can only be used once for a task square, but may contribute to any/all applicable style squares.

Completing BINGO will offer bonus points for the Summer RwS Challenge.

Elizabeth (Alaska) As you may have seen, Kate got Fall's sub-challenge posted. Half and Half should have you cleaning up your TBR or maybe filling in some blanks of your author challenges.

Polls should be up in a few days. (We're running ahead of schedule this month. One of us - not me - is going on vacation the end of the August.)

Kate S | 6459 comments Many apologies for my slowness at getting our summer season closed. I am hard at work on it and expect to send out messages soliciting tasks and group read ideas over the weekend.

Please keep an eye on your inbox so we can get the new season settled soon.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Not sure everyone saw that Kate did get the Readerboard for summer finalized and posted.

Another congratulations to all participants!

Elizabeth (Alaska) I have shared a link to the Fall Master List in Post #2 of the General Questions thread.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Working on something else, I realized I have failed to update our group statistics the last two seasons. That has now been corrected!

Some group statistics

Kate S | 6459 comments A note clarifying our process when establishing whether a book is or is not YA has been added to our FAQs.

A single volume that contains multiple titles will not be used to determine YA. In the case of short story collections, omnibuses, essay collections and other multi-title volumes, the volume will be accepted for applicable tasks and styles

Elizabeth (Alaska) The Winter Master List is available as a google doc and can be accessed in Post #2 of the General Questions thread.

Books with a Lexile score of NP will be accepted for full style points at the discretion of the moderators.

If you think your non-prose YA book should qualify for full style points, please ask your moderators in the current season's challenge general questions thread.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Congratulations to Cat who is the winner of the Fall Season Random award.

Elizabeth (Alaska) As most of you know, our scorekeeping uses a custom database. I posted a couple of seasons back what kinds of data we have entered about the books and authors you have read. The lists of books and/or authors we post via google sheets come from our database.

Some of you are doing personal challenges, like a 20th century challenge. If you would find it helpful, I can generate some custom lists for you. (Need books pub'd 1936-1944?; authors born 1887-1912? Books pub'd in German?)

A limitation is that the author table just has a single name per entry. Searching for surnames beginning with a specific letter may not provide a reasonable result.

We don't track setting or Dewey Decimal number, but I can get a list of pretty much any combination and subset of what data we do have. If this is of interest, speak up in the socializing thread. I'll be glad to open a separate folder for requests and a place to post links to the lists generated.
