Title (link if possible): Me Before YouDate finished: May 8, 2016
How you met the person who recommended the book: She's a field placement student at the company where I work
Would you recommend the book?: Yes, definitely.
Title (link if possible): Beautiful RuinsDate finished: May 9, 2016
How you met the person who recommended the book: I started working as her assistant in December, which is when she recommended the book.
Would you recommend the book?: I would! I didn't love it as much as she did, but it's beautifully written, and especially for people who love sprawling, multi-generational narratives, I think it would be a great choice.
Title: OutlanderDate finished:5/12/2016
How you met the person who recommended the book: Sara is a member of our group here on Goodreads. We've messaged a bit over the last few months since we have very similar tastes in books.
Would you recommend the book?: Yes. I've already told my mom to read it.
Another bonus that this book is on the list of 100 books to read in a lifetime that I'm trying to conquer over the coming years. When possible, I like to knock off a Popsugar challenge prompt with a book from this list. It's been a pretty effective strategy for me this year.
Title (link if possible): The Girl on the TrainDate finished: 5/13/16
How you met the person who recommended the book: Someone on Goodreads
Would you recommend the book?: I would recommend it to someone who likes mystery/suspense. I thought it was a little boring to begin with and I was frustrated with the characters for the first half but then it picked up speed and intensity. A very satisfying ending.
Title (link if possible): Fallen AngelsDate finished: 5/17/16
How you met the person who recommended the book: I walked up to a librarian, explained the prompt, and then introduced myself.
Would you recommend the book?: Yes indeed! The book is about a young man from Harlem who goes off to fight in Vietnam. I felt like I was there with him.
Title (link if possible): Everything, EverythingDate finished: 5/18/16
How you met the person who recommended the book: Juanita, our great and fearless leader, recommended two books for me. This was the first one I finished so I am counting it for the prompt. The other book, At the Edge of the Orchard, is in progress.
Would you recommend the book?: Yes. It's a great book for anyone who like YA. There is plenty of teen angst, an unusual medical issue, and an unexpected ending (at least it was unexpected for me).
Title (link if possible): Leaving Time by Jodi PicoultDate finished: 5/26/2016
How you met the person who recommended the book: In another group I'm in we have something called "Book Pals". I asked my book pal for this month and this is the book she recommended.
Would you recommend the book?: OMG, yes! It was incredible, but be ready to cry and it has a great twist in the end. It's been a long time since I felt like starting a book over at the beginning right after I finished. But I feel like that with this one!
Title (link if possible): The Green Glass SeaDate finished: 5/24/16
How you met the person who recommended the book: I went LeakyCon 2014 in Orlando and the HPA (Harry Potter Alliance) put on an apparating library there. If you brought a book to donate you could switch it out with another one. I donated a book and got a ticket to come back and get another. I was having a hard time finding one that looked interesting to me and someone pointed a copy of The Green Glass Sea and told me it was good. I still don't know her name, where she's from or anything and the books been sitting on my shelve ever since that summer. This was perfect opportunity for me to finally read it. I am so glad I took the recommendation.
Would you recommend the book?: YES! Absolutely! Especially to anyone who likes historical fiction.
Title: True GritDate finished: May 28, 2016
How you met the person who recommended: my librarian
Would you recommend the book?: unfortunately, no. This was a good enough book but the short sentence structure and narrator's voice made it difficult to enjoy. This is one of the few books that I enjoyed more as a movie. Both versions (John Wayne and Jeff Bridges) stay pretty true to the book. The newest movie stays closest but I like Wayne is Rooster Cogburn better.
